The Ministry of Communication and Information Technology together with the Ministry of Education and Culture have joined forces in an effort to digitize Indonesia's national cultural heritage. The primary objective of this collaboration is to ensure widespread, organized, and enduring public availability of Indonesian cultural information.

Nezar Patria, the Deputy Minister of Communication and Digital, expressed the commitment of Kemkomdigi to actively engage in supporting national cultural programs through bolstering the digital infrastructure and ecosystem.

He articulated these remarks during a meeting with Deputy Minister of Culture Giring Ganesha at the Kemkomdigi office in Central Jakarta.

The primary objective of the partnership between the two governmental departments is to advance the creation of a cross-regional cultural data portal known as the "Cultural Gateway."

"This is not just an archive. This is our way of telling stories about our national identity in the digital space," he says.

Patria emphasized that the process of cultural digitization presents numerous advantages, such as furnishing students and scholars with extensive educational materials, enabling the public to develop a more intimate knowledge of cultural heritage, and fostering a sense of national identity in the virtual realm.

Kemkomdigi is offering technical support through the National Data Center (PDN), which provides extensive and secure storage capacity for cultural data at a national level.

"The PDN has a capacity of up to 40 petabytes. This is sufficient to accommodate the ever-growing number of digital artifacts," Nezar adds.

Deputy Minister of Culture Giring Ganesha elucidated that the Cultural Gateway will serve as a comprehensive repository for cultural information gathered from all 38 provinces across the nation.

"Content includes museum artifacts, history, traditional music, folk games, and even three-dimensional visuals. The public can access photos, videos, audio, and digital archives in an integrated manner," he says.
