South Korea's prestigious HD Hyundai revealed that a delegation from the Indian state of Tamil Nadu had recently toured the Ulsan shipyard belonging to its subsidiary, HD Hyundai Heavy Industries. The state of India is working towards establishing a new shipyard in collaboration with HD Hyundai, a prominent global shipbuilding corporation.

The delegation was headed by T.R.B. Rajaa, the Minister of Industries for Tamil Nadu, and consisted of Gaurav Daga, the Managing Director of Guidance Tamil Nadu, the state's investment promotion agency.

The visit is a result of the recently signed memorandum of understanding between HD Hyundai and the Tamil Nadu state government regarding the establishment of a shipyard in India. India is presently making concerted efforts to enhance its shipbuilding and maritime capacities through the national initiative called Maritime Amrit Kaal Vision 2047.

The program is aimed at establishing the South Asian nation as a dominant force in the international maritime and shipping industries. As an integral component of the initiative, the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways in India has identified five potential sites for the establishment of shipbuilding hubs, with Tamil Nadu being among them.

“Partnering with HD Hyundai, the world’s leading shipbuilder, will help establish a strong shipbuilding ecosystem in India and create high-quality jobs,” Minister Rajaa was quoted as saying by HD Hyundai.

Choi Han-nae, a senior official with HD Hyundai, stated that the visit clearly showcases India's unwavering dedication to advancing its shipbuilding industry.
