Vietnam and Ireland Seek Ways to Step Up Bilateral Cooperation

Vietnam and Ireland have declared their intention to enhance bilateral cooperation through the reinforcement of political trust, the promotion of high-level and all-level exchanges, and the facilitation of youth, student, and cultural programs in commemoration of the approaching anniversary.
The Deputy Minister additionally urged Ireland to promptly approve the EU-Vietnam Investment Protection Agreement (EVIPA), emphasizing the potential for revitalizing economic collaboration between the two countries.

The Deputy Minister also urged Ireland to expedite the ratification of the EU-Vietnam Investment Protection Agreement (EVIPA), which could inject new energy into economic collaboration.
Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Le Thi Thu Hang conducted a reception in Ha Noi on April 21 for Irish Ambassador to Vietnam Deirdre Ní Fhallúin, focusing on exploring strategies to enhance bilateral collaboration and make arrangements for the upcoming 30th anniversary of their diplomatic ties from 1996 to 2026.
The purpose of the meeting is also to explore strategies for achieving the results of the visit to Ireland in October 2024 by the General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Central Committee and State President To Lam.
Hang expressed gratitude for Ireland's effective collaboration in hosting the Vietnam–Ireland political consultation event in Dublin in March 2026 and in inaugurating Vietnam's Embassy in the same city.

She hailed this significant development as a pivotal moment indicative of the mutual dedication of both nations in furthering their diplomatic relationship. The suggestion put forward by her involves enhancing political confidence between the two parties, elevating interactions at both high and grassroots levels, and coordinating events focused on the youth, students, and cultural aspects to commemorate the approaching milestone.
Additionally, the Deputy Minister urged Ireland to promptly approve the EU–Vietnam Investment Protection Agreement (EVIPA) in order to stimulate new opportunities for economic collaboration.
Hang also recommended that Ireland continue and broaden scholarship initiatives like the Ireland Fellows Program for Vietnamese students and researchers. She also proposed encouraging Irish tourism enterprises to engage in significant events in Vietnam and improving collaboration between the two countries during Ireland's term as President of the European Council in the latter half of 2026.
Ní Fhallúin expressed her appreciation for the establishment of Vietnam's embassy in Dublin, citing it as a strong indication of the nation's dedication to enhancing bilateral ties. She observed a consistent increase in the number of Vietnamese students studying in Ireland and Irish tourists visiting Viet Nam between 2023 and 2025.
Ireland is looking forward to celebrating its 30th anniversary by planning various cultural exchange events, such as music performances and promotional activities highlighting Irish culture and its people in Vietnam. Additionally, Ireland intends to share its objectives for the upcoming EC presidency during these festivities.

Both parties have reached a mutual agreement to enhance the frequency of delegations exchanged, specifically at elevated levels, and to collaborate closely in overseeing the planning of commemorative events including messages of congratulations, cultural celebrations, film showcases, art displays, musical presentations, and interactions among individuals.
During this meeting, Hang also had a discussion with the Honorary Consul of Vietnam in Ireland, Patrick McKillen, regarding strategies to enhance collaboration in the fields of science and technology, commerce and investment, and interpersonal relationships. They also focused on facilitating businesses from both nations in strengthening their connections and expanding their market reach.
