| | OCTOBER 20269Singapore's Government Technology Agency (GovTech) and Google DeepMind are developing an artificial intelligence (AI) model to detect potential scams directly on Android devices, helping users identify suspicious conversations before sharing credentials or transferring money. The model will analyse conversation patterns on devices, generating alerts when it identifies possible social-engineering tactics. Unlike cloud-based systems, this approach aims to protect message privacy and support end-to-end encrypted messaging platforms.Built on lightweight Gemma models, the system will be adapted using local scam examples involving impersonation of government agencies, banks, and public figures.GovTech Trust and Safety Director Mark Chen said the approach would help identify local scams without compromising private messages. Singapore is also joining Google's Fairwind Program to strengthen cybersecurity through AI-powered vulnerability detection and patch development tools. The International Society of Automation (ISA) Saudi Arabia Section successfully concluded ISA Saudi Automation Conference 2026, held October 1214 at Kempinski Al Othman Hotel in Al Khobar, attracting over 800 attendees, 50 speakers, 33 exhibition booths, and 20 sponsors.Organized under the leadership of Dr. Soloman Almadi, ISA Saudi Arabia Section President and Conference Chairman, the event focused on the theme "Autonomous: Vision to Reality," exploring automation, digital transformation, industrial safety, data analytics, and cybersecurity. The conference featured expert presentations, industry panels, workshops, and exhibitions showcasing emerging technologies. The ISA EMEA 2026 Student Games, held October 1113, brought together students internationally to compete in artificial intelligence, machine learning, industrial IoT, and research paper categories, encouraging innovation and future workforce development. South Korean data center chipmaker FADU has unveiled what it calls the world's first file-semantic solid-state drive (FS-SSD), designed to accelerate artificial intelligence (AI) workloads while reducing computational overhead and energy consumption.Introduced at the 2026 Open Compute Project Global Summit in San Jose, California, the technology handles file-level operations directly within storage devices, unlike conventional SSDs that manage data using block addresses.Powered by FADU's sixth-generation SSD controller, the system enables graphics processing units and data processing units to access files without routing requests through the central processing unit.FADU said the innovation could reduce latency, infrastructure requirements, and operating costs while improving energy efficiency. The company plans to develop hostless storage servers and scalable file storage systems for AI data centers. SINGAPORE AND GOOGLE DEVELOP ON-DEVICE AI TOOL TO COMBAT SCAMS UAE developer Aldar has completed an AED1.1 billion forward purchase agreement with Arada for three residential blocks comprising more than 1,100 units across nine buildings in Aljada, Sharjah. The transaction marks Aldar's first real estate investment in Sharjah and increases its develop-to-hold pipeline to AED21 billion. It also builds on the companies' recently announced AED15 billion development partnership.Aldar Group CEO Talal Al Dhiyebi said the investment aligns with its strategy to expand its rental residential portfolio and enter new markets. Arada Group CEO Ahmed Alkhoshaibi described the agreement as a vote of confidence in Aljada and Sharjah's housing market.Arada is expected to deliver the residential assets in the fourth quarter of 2029, supporting Aldar's long-term growth strategy.
