Viswanathan AAsia continues to lead in international patent filings through WIPO, representing 55.7 percent of the total in 2024, a significant increase from 40.3 percent in 2012. The UAE recently entered the Madrid Protocol in 2021, simplifying trademark registration and updating its trademark laws in 2022. From fashion to pharmaceuticals, enforcement remains tricky, however, as the legislative changes are still relatively new. Over 1,100 websites have been blocked using InstaBlock within a few months. The Telecommunications and Digital Government Regulatory Authority (TDRA) enforces the Internet Access Management policy, targeting websites that infringe on intellectual property (IP). In the first quarter of 2024, 33 percent of the 629 websites blocked by the TDRA were related to IP infringements.Additionally, given the prevailing cut-throat competition across markets, scandals, financial crises, and the globalization of anything & everything, it could create stumbling blocks in your organization's journey, not to mention the dynamic and swiftly evolving compliance landscape.
