Jason Teoh Kheng Swee, a highly skilled professional in consumer banking and e-payment, is deeply committed to compliance. In an exclusive interview with CEO Insights, Jason talks in-depth about his professional journey and how he has been able to guide organizations on creating the right compliance control framework.

Could you give a brief account of your professional background and experiences? What is the motivation that fuels your daily routines?

My career journey started in retail before transitioning into broadcast media, specifically in finance and procurement for the satellite TV company Astro in Malaysia. I then moved into the private firm sector as a finance manager before joining the banking industry for more than 13 years. Throughout my career, I gained valuable exposure to the consumer business and developed a deep understanding of consumer behavior. This is in contrast to many compliance officers in financial institutions who are typically trained solely in banking and lack exposure to other industries whereby it could hinder customer journey experience due to limited comprehension experience. The motivation to engage in governance, where our contributions to the systemic industry have resulted in protecting and prioritizing consumers' best interests, while being fully aware that our actions are visible to the general public we serve.

You possess over twenty-five years of experience. How has been your path to success and what is your success mantra?

My diverse industry exposure has allowed me to view things from the perspective of the customer, emphasizing the importance of the customer journey in all business activities. With my understanding of policies and regulations, I am capable of implementing governance into daily operations. I possess a strong attention to detail and the ability to understand and harmonize business needs with regulatory governance. While mitigating risks, I am able to balance business requirements and regulatory guidance with perseverance and tenacity to drive business success, while also effectively managing stakeholders. My personal mantra for success is to always prioritize sustainable and logical actions in all tasks.

How would you define Revenue Group Berhad as an organization and its position in the market? What is the unique proposition that your organization offers to clients?

Revenue Group Berhad is a technology-driven payment solutions provider that aims to support businesses in all industries by constantly improving its product and service offerings. The company has achieved significant milestones, including being listed on Bursa Malaysia and Forbes Asia's Best Under A Billion list. In 2022, the company was transferred to Bursa, Malaysia's Main Market from ACE Market. Despite market uncertainties, Revenue Group Berhad has achieved impressive financial results for FY2022 with record-breaking revenue and profit after tax.

Tell us about your leadership approach. What are the guidelines or methodologies you follow to lead your team?

My leadership approach centres around consultative collaboration, design thinking, rational decision-making, and objectivity. I involve others, value input, understand user needs, generate multiple solutions, and test them practically to find the best option.

What advice would you give to budding industry leaders based on your experience, and what is your future destination?

Throughout my professional journey, I have been fortunate to work with supportive Leaders who have played a significant role in my career development. While I cannot predict what the future may hold, I am eager to embrace new opportunities and challenges with a flexible mindset while remaining true to my values. In my opinion, humility is an essential quality that involves being modest and willing to learn from anyone, regardless of their status or position. This trait can help us avert making mistakes due to overconfidence or conceit. Additionally, maintaining an open mind is crucial to making progress, which means being receptive to new ideas and perspectives without allowing our own biases to limit us.
