Health Minister Highlights Comprehensive Healthcare Orientation

imgMember of the Party Central Committee and Minister of Health Dao Hong Lan has emphasized the commitment to transition Vietnam's healthcare system from a focus on treatment to a holistic, patient-centered approach covering all stages of life.

She stated that Resolution No. 72 represents a pioneering direction for safeguarding, nurturing, and enhancing public health. This resolution prioritizes the well-being of the population in all healthcare measures and initiatives, with the goal of resolving persisting challenges in the health industry that have not been adequately addressed.

Resolution No. 72 signifies a significant shift in healthcare ideology, moving away from solely focusing on medical examination and treatment towards a more holistic approach to healthcare, with greater importance placed on preventative measures, early intervention, and telehealth services.

The delivery of healthcare services will be intricately connected with comprehensive health management throughout an individual's lifespan, reflecting a noteworthy change in the operational framework of the sector in the foreseeable future. The Ministry of Health has recommended to the Government the issuance of Resolution No. 282/NQ-CP as a means to execute the resolution with well-defined duties and deadlines. Following a three-month period of enacting the resolution, there has been improved collaboration across various government entities, leading to promising outcomes.

Several regions have taken proactive steps to formulate resolutions, programs, and schemes to fully realize the resolution in accordance with their specific circumstances.

Moreover, the importance of institutional reform has been highlighted as a top priority by the speaker. The minister pointed out that deficiencies in existing mechanisms and policies have posed challenges in the delivery of healthcare services, underscoring the need for ongoing assessment and enhancement of the regulatory framework, while emphasizing the significance of strong collaboration between the government, private sector, and the general public.

The mobilization and efficient utilization of resources from both the public and private sectors, coupled with increased engagement of the public in health preservation and self-management, are considered pivotal elements in achieving positive outcomes.

 

In relation to resources, there will be an emphasis on implementing a National Target Program for healthcare advancement in the upcoming ten years, as well as efficiently managing the health insurance fund to achieve universal coverage and increasing involvement of private healthcare providers.

Human resources and digital transformation were underscored as crucial foundations. The Ministry of Health is emphasizing the importance of training healthcare professionals, especially at the local and preventive care levels, while advocating for the adoption of digital technologies such as electronic health records, digital health platforms, and comprehensive databases to enhance the quality and accessibility of services.

Vietnam's goal is to provide healthcare for all its citizens through holistic and well-coordinated strategies, focusing on preventative measures starting at the grassroots level. This initiative is intended to promote the overall health and sustainability of the nation.
