Chris, a Harvard Alumni, with a visionary approach, actively oversees all aspects of operations, particularly in finance, acquisitions, and successful project delivery.

Could you tell us about the unique experiences Harvard Business School Boston offers and what did you learn from the campus beyond academics?

The Owner President program at Harvard Business School is a transformative experience, driven by three key factors, the comprehensive case study content, esteemed professors, and supportive cohort. Analyzing the operations of numerous businesses over three years, the case studies provide invaluable insights into success and failure. Engaging debates in class complement these learnings with real-world experiences, enhancing the overall understanding.

The program's professors are of the highest caliber, fostering an intellectually stimulating environment. The camaraderie within the cohort encourages open sharing and learning, devoid of competition or bravado. The lasting global connections formed provide a platform for lifelong peer mentoring and development. This program leaves an enduring impact long after leaving the campus.

How would you define Azure as an organization and its position in the market?

Azure represents a fully integrated enterprise, encompassing development, construction, property management, and caretaking. Recognizing the imperative to evolve from a product-oriented entity to an experience-driven brand, we underwent a transformative pivot. We now comprehend that our true essence lies in fostering Confidence, Dreams, and Trust, rather than just being builder developers.

Our unwavering focus on customers drives us to be design-obsessed and tailor every endeavor into a living experience and investment of utmost value for the owners. Outlined in our five-year strategic plan, we aim to dominate the townhouse community development in our chosen markets, targeting a remarkable $1.3 billion in sales. Fueled by innovation and an unwavering commitment to exceptional customer and employee experiences, we shall fulfill our promise and surpass expectations.

Tell us about your leadership approach. What are the methodologies that you follow as a leader?

In my leadership approach, I embrace the role of a coach, recognizing every individual's potential for growth. Regardless of one's position within the organization, I foster an environment that values every voice. By promoting collaboration and brainstorming, we become a more formidable force, addressing challenges with excitement and determination. Despite being in a relatively static industry, I encourage my team to challenge the status quo and embrace unconventional approaches.

Our compass is innovation, which empowers individuals to pursue and champion ideas. We have integrated design thinking to enhance both product and process improvements. As an outcomes-driven business, we set high expectations and maintain rigorous standards. I encourage the team to ensure positive experiences for anyone engaging with our brand, fostering lasting memories. Together, we strive for excellence, fueled by a spirit of constant evolution and customer satisfaction.

How do you keep yourself up to date with ongoing industry trends? What is the future destination you are heading towards?

I avidly explore various industry publications and websites to stay well-informed. Additionally, I actively engage with fellow OPM alumni, exchanging valuable insights from their diverse experiences.

Our strategic focus revolves around establishing a clear vision and optimizing team size. This approach has allowed us to refine our systems and processes, achieving a standardized product offering. Looking ahead, we plan to expand this successful system and operating platform into new geographical regions. Through a combination of knowledge, adaptability, and strategic expansion, we aim to position ourselves for sustained success in the future.

In the light of your strong experience within the industry, what advice would you give to the budding industry leaders?

The triumph of your business hinges not on your individual achievements but on the collective efforts of your team. Embrace the idea of allowing others to receive credit and be open to receiving ideas as much as you enjoy proposing them. Recognize the value of others' knowledge and foster an environment where your management team feels engaged, valued, and respected. It is through this collaborative approach that your business will soar to greater heights than you could ever achieve alone.

Chris Schroor holds a Bachelor of Applied Science in Construction Management, a Master of Business Administration, and is a graduate in Harvard Business School Owner President Manager course, making him a Harvard Alumni. Chris' impressive background includes serving as Executive Director - Commercial Development for Springfield Land Corporation, where he spearheaded the development of an $8 billion, 2830-hectare master planned city. He built strategic partnerships with prominent groups like James Fielding, Mirvac, Macquarie Bank, Suncorp, NEC, Telstra, and others. Prior to that, Chris gained extensive experience in construction and business development during his tenure with Cordukes.
