Russian President Putin To Visit India In December, Says Kremlin

As the two nations' relations deepen and in the wake of the United States imposing tariffs on New Delhi for its purchases of Russian oil, the Kremlin said Friday that Russian President Vladimir Putin will make an official visit to India in December.  

Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov told reporters, including AFP, that Putin will also see Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday at a regional forum in China, where they will talk about "preparation for the December visit."

US President Donald Trump has put tariffs on Indian goods in response to New Delhi's large imports of Russian oil, as part of a campaign to persuade Moscow to cease its war in Ukraine.  Energy income is a significant source of money for Moscow's governmental budget.  

Russia is also a major arms supplier to India, and the two countries have had close connections since the Soviet era.  Ukraine's Western allies have attempted to reduce Russia's export revenues since Moscow commenced its military offensive in February 2022.

However, Russia has managed to divert energy sales from Europe to nations like China and India, guaranteeing that the multibillion-dollar money flow has persisted.  

India has maintained that it purchased oil "from Russia since traditional supplies were redirected to Europe following the conflict's onset.

Due to the onslaught on Ukraine, for which he was issued an arrest warrant by the International Criminal Court (ICC), Putin has drastically reduced his travel abroad.  India is not required to hold Putin because it is not a party to the ICC.
