SamsungSamsung Electronics, a global leader in memory chip manufacturing, has unveiled its latest innovation: the industry's fastest LPDDR5X memory chip tailored for on-device artificial intelligence (AI) applications. This groundbreaking development underscores Samsung's commitment to pushing the boundaries of memory technology.

The newly introduced Low Power Double Data Rate 5X (LPDDR5X) boasts unparalleled performance, with speeds reaching up to 10.7 gigabits-per-second. Remarkably, this achievement is coupled with a compact size, making it the smallest among comparable products utilizing the cutting-edge 12-nanometer-class process technology. To put its speed into perspective, the LPDDR5X can transmit approximately 20 4-gigabyte full HD movie files in just one second.

Bae Yong-cheol, Executive Vice President of Product Planning at Samsung's memory chip business, highlighted the LPDDR DRAM's expanding role beyond mobile devices. He emphasized its potential applications in diverse sectors such as PCs, accelerators, servers, and automobiles, driven by the increasing demand for low-power, high-performance memory solutions.

Samsung's commitment to innovation extends to collaborating closely with customers to meet the evolving demands of the on-device AI era. The mass production of the 10.7Gbps LPDDR5X is slated to commence in the second half of the year, following rigorous verification with mobile application processors and device providers.

The LPDDR5X represents a significant leap in performance and capacity compared to its predecessors, with a more than 25 percent increase in speed and over 30 percent boost in capacity. Notably, it enables mobile DRAM single package capacities of up to 32 gigabytes, making it an ideal solution for on-device AI applications.

The integration of on-device AI has propelled the significance of low-power, high-performance LPDDR memory chips. Samsung's LPDDR5X incorporates specialized power-saving technologies, including optimized power variation and expanded low-power mode intervals. These enhancements contribute to a 25 percent improvement in power efficiency over previous generations, resulting in longer battery life for mobile devices and reduced energy consumption for servers.

The application of on-device AI is poised for exponential growth across various sectors, including smartphones, wearable devices, robots, and autonomous vehicles. This trend is expected to drive substantial demand for high-performance, high-capacity memory chips in the coming years.

According to market tracker Omdia, the global demand for mobile DRAM chip capacity is forecasted to surge from 67.6 billion gigabytes in 2023 to 125.9 billion gigabytes by 2028, representing a compound annual growth rate of 11 percent. Concurrently, global revenue is projected to double from $12.3 billion in 2023 to $26.3 billion in 2028, reflecting the escalating importance of memory solutions in the burgeoning tech landscape.

Samsung's latest LPDDR5X memory chip exemplifies its unwavering commitment to driving innovation and meeting the evolving needs of the digital age. As the demand for high-performance memory solutions continues to soar, Samsung remains at the forefront, delivering cutting-edge technologies that power the next generation of AI-driven devices and applications.ews in 450 words
