The global technology industry is at an interesting juncture. Intel Corporation, the once untouchable semiconductor manufacturing corporation, is often trailing behind in the AI era of semiconductors. AMD and NVIDIA are quickly catching up. It’s not surprising that Intel replaced its CEO. The company has appointed Lip-Bu Tan, a veteran semiconductor executive, as its new CEO. Lip-Bu will be in charge starting from mid-March 2025. Lip-Bu, who previously headed Cadence Design Systems and served on Intel's board, faces the unsettling challenge of revitalizing the company, which has
struggled with market-share losses and significant layoffs, including 15,000 job cuts recently. Regardless of its long-standing supremacy in the semiconductor industry, Intel's market value has plunged significantly, with its shares falling over 54 percent in the past year.

Pat Gelsinger, the predecessor of Lip-Bu, stepped down after a series of underwhelming quarterly performances and unsuccessful efforts to advance product innovation, particularly in the critical area of AI chips, where competitors such as Nvidia and AMD have made significant progress. With Lip-Bu now at the helm, Intel is striving to reclaim its competitive position in the market.

The announcement of Lip-Bu as the new CEO triggered a more than 10% surge in Intel's stock price, high lighting investors' renewed confidence in the company's potential for transformation. Analysts suggest that Lip-Bu's extensive expertise in customer focused innovation, demonstrated during his tenure at Cadence, could prove instrumental in driving Intel's resurgence. This issue of CEO Insights sheds more light on the technology companies in the Philippines. Do let us know your thoughts.
