The Asian continent is at a defining moment. As the continent looks forward to a brighter future than Europe and America in the digital age, the contributions of countries such as Thailand will be crucial. It is no secret that it calls for an enhanced entrepreneurial ecosystem. Chiang Mai University (CMU) is setting a great example. CMU, in collaboration with the Stock Exchange of Thailand, has unveiled an entrepreneurial platform, Builds. This program is designed to help students transform their research projects into profitable enterprises.

By 2026, the Builds platform aims to create more than 4,200 entrepreneurs and 240 businesses. It also has a goal to hire 3,600 workers with high skills and make over 4.5 billion baht in income in the North. The platform further provides opportunities for students to join a start-up incubator program, offering a comprehensive study of business operations. According to reports, the university will also provide funding to help students with their businesses. They want these programs to motivate students to turn their ideas into businesses while they finish their degrees.

Founded in 1964, Chiang Mai University is best known for its research prowess and significant contribution to advancing science and technology. For instance, Chana Sinsabvarodom, a lecturer and researcher at the Department of Civil Engineering at Chiang Mai University's Faculty of Engineering, is set to become the first Thai researcher to work in the South Pole, where the average temperature in the warmest season is minus 28C. Through this yearly special issue, we shed light on the prestigious alumni ecosystem of Chiang Mai University.
