Could you provide a concise overview of your professional history and past experiences? Additionally, what drives your daily activities and keeps you motivated?

In 1984, I commenced my professional journey with six years of service in the Royal Dutch Navy, serving across the Caribbean, North & South America, Europe, Middle East, Far East, and Southeast Asia. After an honourable discharge in 1990, I worked as a paint supervisor at Courtaulds Coatings – International Paint, and later as a coating inspector and corrosion engineer at Tecson Rotterdam BV. I pursued specialized education for 11 years, gaining skills in intercultural management, business development, and engineering. From 1995, I worked in various technical service roles in China, including shipowner’s representative and country manager. In 2011, I founded my first company in Hong Kong and managed Qingdao Yanlin Underwater Contractors In 2014, I became CEO of Q2CC. My motivation lies in my family and networking, which have contributed to my success.

With around four decades of experience under your belt, could you share the journey that led to your success and unveil your key principles for achieving it?

Over four decades, my career journey has been dynamic, marked by diverse experiences within multinational corporations. I diligently climbed the corporate ladder, committing extensive hours daily, even foregoing weekends and holidays. Challenges were embraced, facilitating global learning and growth. Every decision, from career moves to personal choices, was deliberate and propelled me forward. My success mantra revolves around achieving financial freedom, enabling pursuit of passions and leveraging strengths in impactful settings alongside loved ones, colleagues, and clients.

How do you characterize Qingdao Quality Control Consultants and its current market standing?

Q2CC, or Qingdao Quality Control Consultants, is a prominent player in China's technological landscape. As an innovative Engineering, Consulting, and Supply Services Company, we're led by a team renowned for pioneering solutions and top-notch customer service. I advocate for a participatory, value-driven leadership style over a traditional hierarchical approach. I view all employees as valuable stakeholders and empower teams to align actions with our shared core values. I make decisions by considering both my expertise and team feedback, motivating them to excel and fostering creativity.

Creating a space where ideas are welcomed and diverse perspectives valued, I aim to cultivate respect and appreciation. This approach enhances satisfaction and engagement, ensuring a thriving work environment at Q2CC.

How do you keep yourself up-to-date with ongoing industry trends to steer your organization towards the future, and what is your future roadmap going forward?

To ensure both my team and I stay informed about current industry trends guiding our organization towards future success, I diligently monitor technology developments and emerging trends. This entails keeping abreast of online literature, market information, blogs, and tweets from personal and professional connections. Additionally, I actively engage in virtual meetings with clients and industry experts globally. Looking ahead, despite challenges from COVID-19 in 2023, I anticipate promising opportunities for Q2CC in the year of the Dragon. These opportunities will focus on technological innovation, environmental protection, and high-tech applications aligning with our core business objectives.

Given your extensive experience in the industry, what guidance would you offer to emerging leaders in the field?

In today's fast-paced business environment, leaders must demonstrate adaptability and flexibility in response to unforeseen changes. It's imperative for them to thoroughly assess the external factors impacting their organization, including market shifts, evolving competition, and technological advancements. Awareness of these external dynamics empowers leaders to make informed decisions and adjust their leadership approach promptly.
