If the history of the business realm has taught us anything, it is that the most successful businesses are born out of sheer passion to tackle challenges at scale. However, regardless of the industry, business challenges are often revealed when you are at ground zero. Satvinder Kaur Sadu Singh, known as SK in the healthcare business community and the Founder & CEO of Weansa Solutions, kick-started her career as a radiographer for the Ministry of Health in Malaysia, and little did she know she would be recognizing such a challenge and solving it years later.

Established in 2015, Weansa Solutions is one of the leading providers of Medical Imaging training, ensuring imaging experts are constantly at the cutting edge of things and, in turn, optimize medical imaging applications. Today, Satvinder is an award-winning Malaysian entrepreneur who has grown Weansa Solutions' operations to diverse areas within the healthcare sector. We recently contacted this passionate leader, and she was happy to walk us through her journey. Below is an excerpt from the interview.

You started this company with close to two decades of professional experience. What is the inception story? Honestly, I never imagined myself venturing into business. I kick-started my career in the healthcare sector, where I worked as a radiographer for the Ministry of Health in Malaysia for seven years. Subsequently, I progressed to a leading private hospital, where I dedicated another eight years of service. Soon, I received an opportunity to join a multinational corporation as an application specialist . This role allowed me to oversee the ASEAN region, eventually leading to my appointment as the Women's Segment Leader for ASEAN. While the position provided invaluable experience and extensive travel opportunities, the constant travel became increasingly exhausting. Hence, after seven years with the organization, I sought a new direction in my career.

To me, leadership is fundamentally about leading by example

In 2015, leveraging nearly two decades of expertise in the medical imaging field, I landed on entrepreneurship. My motivation stemmed from a desire to bridge the technological knowledge and training gap within the medical imaging community, particularly in comparison to global standards seen in Europe and the United States. I recognized that many of my previous colleagues in our region worked hard with lack of theoretical understanding on the advanced protocols critical to optimizing their use.

To address this, I founded Weansa Solutions, which focuses on training radiographers and medical imaging professionals with cutting-edge knowledge. Our mission has been to elevate their capabilities to meet global standards. Today, we are proud to be pioneers in specialized medical imaging training, offering expertise on the latest advancements and technologies. To date, we have successfully trained over 3,000 active imaging healthcare providers.

Building a company from scratch is always a challenge. What helped you tackle the initial challenges? In the early days, I often encountered skepticism from potential clients who hesitated to trust a new company. However, my professional reputation from prior roles made a significant difference. When I started my business, many people who had known me from my previous roles had since risen to influential positions and were willing to support me. They often said, "I’m working with you because I trust you". These words are something I deeply value and strive to honor in every interaction.

We achieved a significant milestone in 2023, which is a million-dollar project. Through the consistent dedication and hard work of my team, we managed to complete the project within three months, exceeding expectations. This accomplishment surprised many who doubted our capabilities, and I am proud of what we achieved together. I also credit my business director, whose expertise in IT and vision for providing top-tier solutions has been instrumental in our success.

Weansa Solutions' courses clearly reflect your hands-on experience and deep understanding of challenges in the medical imaging industry. Tell us more about the deliverables. At Weansa Solutions, our primary focus is to provide healthcare imaging professionals with comprehensive training on the latest advancements in medical technology. This initiative stems from a deep commitment to exposing practitioners to cutting-edge knowledge and ensuring their skills remain aligned with global standards. As a mammographer myself, I have had the privilege of teaching breast imaging techniques and educating professionals on the latest technologies in women’s healthcare across Malaysia.

The rapid evolution of technology, particularly in the medical field, is a positive development. However, staying updated demands continuous learning. This is a core reason behind our specialized training programs. To ensure the highest quality of education, we often invite international experts to share their insights and expertise on emerging technologies.  These qualities are reflected in your leadership style, too. What does leadership mean to you? To me, leadership is fundamentally about leading by example. I strongly believe in professionalism, ethics, and integrity as the cornerstones of effective leadership. I maintain an open-door policy with my staff, ensuring they feel comfortable approaching me at any time. Strong communication and mutual understanding are vital, as I consider my staff to be my greatest assets. I take absolute pride in their exceptional capabilities, and I constantly strive to support and empower them.

Equally important is prioritizing our customers and stakeholders, especially in a hospital environment. I ensure that the end customers always receive the highest level of satisfaction from our solutions. If a customer raises a concern or complaint, it is addressed immediately to maintain trust and satisfaction. This approach has yielded positive results, and I continue to uphold these principles to foster success.

For this niche process of knowledge transfer, being at the cutting edge of industry trends is also extremely important. How do you achieve this? I am deeply committed to staying updated with the latest industry trends. Whenever new information or processes emerge, I make it a priority to trace them back to their source, whether it’s a published paper or a speaker at a summit or congress. I often invite these experts to share their insights as guest speakers, which provides an invaluable opportunity to gain knowledge and learn from their experiences. Additionally, we are extensively involved in medical tourism, collaborating with other countries in Asia. When trainees come to our facility, I ensure they have the chance to explore our hospital's cutting-edge technologies. At the same time, I actively learn from their perspectives and expertise, fostering a mutually enriching exchange of knowledge.

What is the future roadmap? Our organization, now recognized as a prominent healthcare training provider, aspires to become the leading name in the industry. I am driven by a vision to uphold the highest standards of quality and continuously enhance our offerings. Our goal is to establish a comprehensive, 360-degree company within the segment, which is a one-stop solution provider. We are also diversifying into new ventures and opening additional centers. For instance, Weansa Healthcare, that features the Vertigo and Balance Centre. These specialized centers represent an exciting advancement in our journey.
