While the CEO of OpenAI stated that the company that created ChatGPT would use AMD's most recent chips, Lisa Su, the CEO of Advanced Micro Devices, presented a new AI server for 2026 that intends to compete with Nvidia's flagship products.

At the "Advancing AI" developer conference in San Jose, California, Su spoke about the MI350 and MI400 series AI chips, which she claimed will rival Nvidia's Blackwell processor line.

AMD intends to launch a new server named "Helios" next year, which will be built on the MI400 series of CPUs.

As the battle between Nvidia and other AI chip companies has changed from selling individual chips to selling servers with hundreds or even thousands of processors interwoven with networking chips from the same company, the move was made.

With 72 AMD's MI400 series CPUs, the AMD Helios servers will be similar to Nvidia's existing NVL72 servers.

Many features of the Helios servers, including the networking standards, will be made publicly available and shared with rivals like Intel, AMD stated during its keynote address.

The action was a clear jab at industry leader Nvidia, which has begun licensing its proprietary NVLink technology as competition increases.

Nvidia utilizes this technology to connect its chips.  Sam Altman of OpenAI joined Su onstage.

The developer of ChatGPT is collaborating with AMD to enhance the MI450 processors' design for AI applications.

Executives from Oracle, Meta Platforms, and Elon Musk's xAI addressed the stage during her speech to talk about their individual applications of AMD CPUs.  Crusoe, an AI-focused cloud service, said Reuters that it intends to purchase $400 million worth of AMD's latest CPUs.
