Doosan Enerbility from South Korea has secured a contract worth 930 billion won (around $669.0 million) for the construction of a gas-fired combined cycle power plant in Oman, reinforcing its stake in the Middle East power generation sector.

Doosan Enerbility declared on the 21st that it has finalized a construction agreement for the Misfah gas-fired combined cycle power facility in Oman.

The overall value of the contract is around 930 billion won. In this initiative, Doosan Enerbility has established a partnership with SEPCO-3, a specialist in power plant construction, to carry out EPC activities that include design, procurement, and construction, while also supplying the plant’s essential equipment such as steam turbines and generators directly.

The Misfah gas-fired combined cycle power station is situated around 20 km west of Muscat, the capital city of Oman. The facility is expected to generate 1,700 MW of power, aiming for completion by April 2029. When finished, the facility is anticipated to help satisfy electricity needs and stabilize energy provision in Oman.

The project owner consists of international developers. A project has been commissioned by a consortium comprising Nebras Power from Qatar, UAE's EUDC, and Oman’s Bahwan Infrastructure Service (BIS).

Lee Hyun-ho, head of Doosan Enerbility's Plant EPC BG says, "The successful project execution capabilities and differentiated strategies demonstrated in neighboring Middle Eastern countries such as Saudi Arabia and Qatar led to this award," adding, "We will build a world-class power plant with our partners and contribute to stabilizing Oman's electricity supply."

Doosan Enerbility has been consistently obtaining contracts in the Middle East market for gas-fired combined cycle power plants since the previous year. Beginning with the 290 billion won (around $208.6 million) Qatar peaking unit project in 2025, the firm finalized contracts in March for the Rumah 1 and Nairyah 1 gas-fired combined cycle power plants in Saudi Arabia valued at 2.2 trillion won (roughly $1.6 billion) and the PP12 gas-fired combined cycle power plant priced at 890 billion won (about $640.3 million).

In June of that year, the firm secured the O Mon 4 project in Vietnam, valued at around 900 billion won (about $647.4 million), and this year has obtained the Duqm gas-fired combined cycle power plant in Oman worth 530 billion won (around $381.3 million), in addition to this Misfah project. With the addition of this recent award, total orders in the last two years have reached 5.74 trillion won (around $4.1 billion).

Leveraging execution experience in Qatar and Saudi Arabia, the company is consistently securing projects in Oman, strengthening its standing in the Middle East gas-fired combined cycle power sector.

Oman is one of the Middle Eastern nations that is vigorously working towards economic diversification. Oman's energy strategy is also undergoing adjustments. With the shift to a low-carbon economy speeding up in the Middle East, Oman is concentrating on enhancing its natural gas-powered electricity infrastructure. This is understood as a transitional energy mix approach acknowledging that a swift transition to renewable energy poses challenges in the near term.

This project creates a long-term profitability framework by establishing a mid-term completion goal of 2029. During the roughly five-year duration of the project, the company is anticipated to gain relevant expertise, technical knowledge, and establish a network of local partners. This is expected to act as a basis for obtaining further projects not just in Oman but throughout the wider Middle East area.
