EcoPro to Accelerate Entry into the European Market

Battery materials company EcoPro has finished its cathode facility in Hungary, signaling a robust expansion in the local market driven by a keen adherence to regional regulatory standards.
The company announced that it held the completion ceremony for its new facility in Debrecen, Hungary's second-largest city.
The event saw the presence of EcoPro founder Lee Dong-chae, CEO Song Ho-jun, SK On CEO Lee Seok-hee, Hungarian Investment Promotion Agency CEO Istvan Joo, Debrecen Mayor Laszlo Papp, along with other leaders from the company's major clients.
“Due to the comprehensive and rapid assistance from the Hungarian government, we successfully established the first European manufacturing facility run by a Korean cathode firm,” Lee stated.

“The finishing of the plant signifies a fresh start for EcoPro and Europe to collaboratively influence the future as the electric vehicle (EV) sector undergoes swift changes,” Lee adds.
Covering a 440,000-square-meter area, the facility contains EcoPro BM, responsible for producing cathode material; EcoPro Innovation, which handles lithium processing; and EcoPro AP, which produces industrial oxygen and hydrogen.
The facility possesses a yearly production capacity of 54,000 tons of cathode materials, sufficient to support around 600,000 electric vehicles, in addition to producing 8,000 tons of lithium hydroxide annually and 16,000 cubic meters of oxygen each hour.

Starting next year, EcoPro will produce high-nickel ternary cathodes, which include nickel-cobalt-aluminum and nickel-cobalt-manganese, and intends to broaden its lineup of midrange products like mid-nickel cathodes and lithium iron phosphate. Upon finishing its expansion, the plant will have a total capacity of 108,000 tons annually, while EcoPro Group's yearly capacity will amount to 300,000 tons.
The facility is anticipated to attract considerable attention from battery manufacturers and automotive companies, as its finalization coincides with the implementation of the European Union’s Critical Raw Materials Act (CRMA) and the EU-UK Trade and Cooperation Agreement.
The CRMA is focused on ensuring the availability of essential raw materials for EU member nations.
