Dubai Maritime City (DMC) and Emirates Central Cooling Systems Company PJSC (Empower) have a contract for district cooling services for the DMC project. The project has a chilling capacity of more than 63,000 refrigeration tonnes (RT).

Sultan bin Sulayem, group chairman and CEO of DP World, a top supplier of integrated smart logistics solutions to facilitate trade flows globally, and Ahmad bin Shafar, CEO of Empower, signed the deal.

As the first of its sort following the successful listing of Empower on the Dubai Financial Exchange, this deal is noteworthy. It demonstrates the corporate community's faith in Empower's ability to deliver eco-friendly district cooling services that benefit the economy, society, the environment, and the climate. The agreement shows Empower's capacity to develop a cutting-edge and long-lasting business strategy and broaden the scope of its projects.

Empower is to spend AED 450 million to provide over 43 buildings in Dubai Maritime City with top-notch district cooling services. Two factories running with cutting-edge technology and located within the city will deliver the services over the course of two phases. In the first phase, 27 buildings with a combined cooling capacity of more than 28,000 RT will receive cooling energy, and in the second phase, 16 structures will receive cooling energy at a rate of 35,000 RT.

Between Port Rashid and Dubai Dry Docks is strategically where DP World's Dubai Maritime City is located. It is one of Dubai's most prominent urban destinations for freehold regions and aspires to expand and assist maritime trade while boosting freight and marine services. The city has upscale residences, five-star hotels, contemporary office buildings, shops, and a variety of services that make it easier to live and work there.

Ahmad bin Shafar said, “The Dubai Maritime City project is considered one of the prominent real estate projects in Dubai. It reflects the pioneering role of Dubai in developing sustainable projects and aims to invest in the marine spaces overlooking the coast of the Arabian Gulf in Dubai, including residential, hotel, commercial and other vital facilities that support the tourist and commercial destinations of the emirate. We are pleased to partner with Dubai Maritime City in developing their project and provide it with environmentally friendly and energy=efficient district cooling solutions that save electricity up to 50 percent compared to conventional air conditioning systems.”

The company, he continued, "reflects the good demand for investment in environmental sustainability within the real estate industry, which primarily helps to boosting the company's growth process."

Bin Sulayem said, “We are pleased to cooperate with Empower to supply the Dubai Maritime City project with district cooling systems with sustainable and environmentally friendly specifications. Our relationship with the company helps us translate our commitment to green building standards in Dubai and support the environmental direction and sustainable development goals in line with the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai.”

He added, "This agreement aligns with DP World’s sustainability strategy represented in the company’s programme 'Our world, Our future', to join the list of efforts to implement projects and conduct our operations in a responsible manner."
