Etihad Airways to Launch New Global Lounge Concept

Etihad Airways is preparing to launch a new generation of its worldwide lounge experience, starting with an upgraded lounge at London Heathrow in the summer of 2027, as part of a broader enhancement of its premium ground services.
The Heathrow lounge will be the initial location to completely implement the airline’s new Beyond Borders design concept, creating a fresh design strategy aimed at enhancing the visual and experiential links between Etihad’s lounges and planes.

The initiative is a component of the airline's broader Beyond Borders strategy for products and experiences, which seeks to provide enhanced consistency throughout the customer journey.
Etihad is allocating funds for aircraft, lounges, dining, amenities, wellbeing, connectivity, and service as part of a projected $20 billion investment in new aircraft and customer experience, which includes a $1 billion fleet retrofit initiative. The revitalized London Heathrow Lounge will showcase the full realization of the new lounge concept.
Attendees at Etihad’s ATM booth received a sneak peek of features intended for the new facility, such as a main showcase element and a redesigned bar. The design idea will then be expanded to new Etihad lounges throughout the airline's network. The lounges will act as exclusive entry points to the Etihad experience, showcasing the design aesthetics and hospitality values being implemented in the airline’s Beyond Borders offerings. Every lounge will feature specific zones for Business and First-class guests, along with private suites for those flying in The Residence.

Arik De, Chief Revenue and Commercial Officer at Etihad Airways, says, “Our new lounges are an important part of the Etihad experience and London Heathrow marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter. It will be the first lounge to bring our new design language fully to life on the ground, creating a space that feels uniquely Etihad and distinctly connected to Abu Dhabi.
“The thinking behind Beyond Borders is that our guests should increasingly recognise the same Etihad identity wherever they are in their journey.
That doesn't mean every space or every aircraft needs to be identical, but there should be a clear connection through our design, hospitality, dining, wellbeing and service.
“London is the beginning. As we expand our lounge network, we have an opportunity to create a more consistent premium experience on the ground while continuing to bring the warmth and character of Abu Dhabi to our guests around the world.”

The updated design language is based in Abu Dhabi and is inspired by the idea of “sand to superstructure”, mirroring the natural scenery, architecture, and growth of the emirate. The method was initially launched with Etihad’s updated aircraft interiors and will now be implemented in lounges using common materials, textures, lighting, and unique design features.
Instead of creating identical areas, the idea will incorporate familiar design elements while enabling each lounge to showcase its unique location and function. The announcement comes after the global reveal of Etihad’s latest A330 cabin at ATM, together with the showcase of the Beyond Borders design on its A321LR.
Collectively, the aircraft and lounge advancements signify the upcoming phase of the airline's initiative to establish a cohesive experience throughout airports, lounges, planes, and locations. London Heathrow will signify the launch of the new worldwide lounge initiative, with additional enhancements anticipated as Etihad persists in broadening its network and enhancing the Beyond Borders experience.
