Finland Greets Vietnamese Party Chief With Welcome Ceremony

Finnish President Alexander Stubb and his wife hosted a reception ceremony at the Presidential Palace in Helsinki for Vietnamese Communist Party General Secretary To Lam and his wife Ngo Phuong Ly. This official visit takes place following an invitation extended by President Stubb.

After the reception ceremony concluded, President Stubb and his wife escorted General Secretary Lam and his wife to the signing chamber, where the Vietnamese official recorded an entry in the guest registry, conveying his pleasure at visiting Finland, a country recognized for its innovation, cultural depth, and humanitarian spirit.

General Secretary Lam emphasized that Vietnam places great importance on its enduring relationship with Finland, expressing confidence that this visit would inaugurate a fresh phase in bilateral ties, advancing peace, stability, and progress across regions and globally.

Subsequently, President Stubb and General Secretary Lam conducted discussions with senior delegations from both nations.

This represents the most senior-level diplomatic visit from Vietnam to Finland, highlighting Hanoi's profound appreciation for its established friendship and comprehensive partnership with the Nordic country.

Commercial exchange between the two nations has experienced consistent expansion in recent years. Educational partnerships have also broadened, with approximately 20 Vietnamese higher education institutions maintaining partnerships with Finnish counterparts, while more than 2,500 Vietnamese students are pursuing studies in Finland across fields including economics, information technology, and tourism.

Scientific and technological cooperation continues to show significant potential, with numerous memoranda of understanding established since 1995.

 

Throughout their diplomatic relationship, Finland has consistently offered unconditional development assistance to Vietnam, concentrating on water resource management, poverty alleviation, climate change mitigation, and forest management. Both nations are advancing their partnership in the energy sector, a strategic priority encompassing renewable energy advancement, project implementation in underserved regions, and regulatory framework development.

Exchanges in culture, sports, and tourism have thrived, with activities in visual arts, music, and literature strengthening relationships. Interpersonal connections, supported by friendship organizations in both nations, have similarly contributed to enhancing reciprocal appreciation of respective cultures and customs.
