Indonesia's Prabowo Departs for Moscow for Talks With Putin

The Indonesian President, Prabowo Subianto, embarked on a journey to Moscow, Russia, departing from Halim Perdanakusuma Air Base in Jakarta on the evening of Sunday, April 12th, for an exclusive meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
The president was accompanied on the flight by Foreign Affairs Minister Sugiono, Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Bahlil Lahadalia, and Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya.
Teddy mentioned that the delegation is anticipated to reach Moscow on Monday morning, local time, following a 12-hour uninterrupted flight on the Garuda Indonesia-1 (PK-GIF) aircraft.

Upon Prabowo's arrival, there are plans for him to engage in a private meeting with President Putin later in the day to deliberate on matters of strategic importance, such as energy security and worldwide geopolitical advancements.
Teddy characterized the meeting as pivotal, emphasizing Prabowo's objective to enhance collaboration with Russia in order to guarantee secure domestic energy resources, specifically focusing on oil.
He stated that on the subject of geopolitics, the president plans to reassert Indonesia's dedication to promoting worldwide stability and peace.
The images released by the Cabinet Secretariat depict Prabowo receiving a farewell from Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka, Minister of State Secretariat Prasetyo Hadi, Director of the State Intelligence Agency M. Herindra, as well as the heads of the military and police forces.
Prabowo's visit signifies his third official trip to Russia after assuming office, with previous visits made to Saint Petersburg in June 2025 and Moscow in December 2025. In his capacity as president-elect, he convened with President Putin in Moscow in July of 2024 to engage in deliberations regarding the maintenance of regional stability.

In past interactions, the two nations have investigated potential collaboration in the fields of new and renewable energy, along with nuclear technology. President Putin has indicated a willingness to assist Indonesia in the advancement of nuclear energy for peaceful objectives. The Foreign Minister, Sugiono, characterized the upcoming visit as a vital component of diplomatic strategy and expressed his intention to accompany the president.
Sugiono emphasized that the summit in Moscow will delve into various shared concerns, particularly focusing on the dynamics of recent geopolitics. Prabowo will be making his third official visit to Russia, having previously traveled to Saint Petersburg in June 2025 and Moscow in December of the same year.
Prior to assuming office, as the president-elect, he met with President Putin in Moscow in July 2024 to engage in discussions pertaining to maintaining stability in the region. Prabowo initially alluded to the forthcoming visit during a speech delivered to high-ranking officials at the State Palace in Jakarta. The president expressed his intention to embark on another international journey in order to ensure a reliable source of oil for Indonesia.
During his speech to the officials, he communicated the strategy while dismissing claims that he often traveled overseas for ceremonial reasons. The president emphasized the necessity of visiting allied countries to ensure a stable oil supply in the face of disrupted global distribution resulting from limited access to the Strait of Hormuz.

The leader of the nation asserted that escalating geopolitical tensions had led the administration to actively engage in dialogue with international allies in order to ensure economic stability.
