Jaishankar and South Korean FM Discuss Strategic Ties in Seoul

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar conversed with his South Korean counterpart Cho Hyun, emphasizing collaboration between the two nations and the swiftly evolving global landscape, the leaders noted.
Jaishankar is presently in South Korea for a two-day trip - the second part of his current overseas tour - following his visit to Mongolia.

"Jaishankar expressed his delight in returning to Seoul and meeting you and your team today for discussions," highlighting that the meeting was timely due to the global situation and the significance of the bilateral relationship.
The discussions concentrated on subsequent actions in the vital sectors of trade, investment, and finance, which were established during South Korean President Lee Jae-myung's official trip to India in April.
Jaishankar stressed that as foreign ministers, it was their duty to advance the relationship and create a more progressive, modern partnership.
"The potential of our relationship remains to be realised, and from our side, there is a full commitment that we would strive to do that," Jaishankar says, acknowledging Cho's personal commitment to strengthening ties.
After the meeting, he posted on X: "We reviewed our cooperation across political, shipbuilding, trade, investments, defence, technology, clean energy, culture and people-to-people domains”.
Jaishankar mentioned that they talked about prospects in sectors such as startups, fintech, and multilateral forums, as well as shared opinions on advancements in their regions and globally. The conversations, taking place in Seoul, persisted during lunch and lasted for approximately three hours. Cho stated that President Lee's trip to India in April was a pivotal moment in enhancing Korea-India relations to a higher level.

"We welcome swift follow-up progress in areas such as trade, investment and finance and discussed how to build on these achievements," he said in a post on X after the meeting.
Cho emphasized India's organization of "Korea Week" this week and how it met Prime Minister Narendra Modi's pledge to tackle issues encountered by Korean companies in India.
"I am grateful for India's strong support, and Korea will soon host a similar dialogue for Indian companies in Korea," he says.
The two foreign ministers engaged in a thorough discussion about the swiftly evolving global situation and concurred on the necessity of maintaining close dialogue to address economic ramifications resulting from changes in West Asia, according to Cho.

Jaishankar and Cho are set to reconvene at the Jeju Forum for Peace and Prosperity, where the former is expected to give the keynote address.
