LG Group plans to launch a humanoid robot utilizing Nvidia’s Isaac GR00T robot foundation model in the first quarter of next year and will deepen its collaboration with the US tech company in AI data centers and mobility sectors.

LG Group Chairman Koo Kwang-mo and Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang formalized “a strategic business collaboration” memorandum of understanding (MOU) outlining their partnership during their meeting at Nvidia's headquarters in Santa Clara, California, on Thursday (local time).

The event was also attended by LG Group Vice Chairman Kwon Bong-seok, LG Electronics CEO Lyu Jae-cheol, LG Uplus CEO Hong Bum-shik, LG CNS CEO Hyun Shin-gyoon, along with other executives from LG Group.

The MOU was established merely two months after senior leaders from both firms consented to collaborate in the AI sector. The MOU outlines areas for collaboration and elaborates on their strategies in each domain.

A key aspect of the collaboration will be humanoid robots. LG announced that it is working on a bipedal robot that they aim to reveal in the first quarter of next year. The robot will utilize Nvidia’s Jetson Thor for on-board processing and sophisticated reasoning and control, and will be built using Isaac GR00T, Nvidia’s platform for robot development.

Isaac serves as an open-source robotics development platform designed for simulation and frameworks supporting robot learning, whereas GR00T acts as a reference platform intended for the construction, training, and evaluation of humanoid robots.

The LG robot will additionally utilize Nvidia’s Halos for Robotics, which the company calls the industry's first fully integrated safety system for robotics. LG Electronics will provide actuators that act as its "muscles," while LG Innotek will offer sensors that work as its "eyes," and LG Energy Solution will deliver batteries. The robot is anticipated to demonstrate the technologies and abilities of LG’s main affiliates.

CLOiD, a wheeled robot that LG Electronics displayed at CES 2026 in January, will additionally undergo testing on the washing machine assembly line at the firm's factory located in Tennessee. The robot data and manufacturing-site knowledge will be utilized to enhance the competitiveness of LG's proprietary robot foundation model, which is in development. LG announced its intention to leverage Nvidia’s Isaac GR00T ecosystem while simultaneously enhancing its own AI model capabilities.

LG aims to integrate Nvidia’s DSX data center framework with LG Electronics’ cooling technologies, LG Energy Solution’s batteries, LG Uplus’ operational expertise, and LS Group’s power offerings for data centers. DSX is Nvidia’s benchmark design for creating AI data centers as cohesive systems that include computing, networking, storage, power, and cooling solutions.

In the early months of next year, LG will initially set up a reference site utilizing Nvidia’s Vera Rubin AI computing platform to implement and evaluate the group’s cooling, power, and IT technologies.

In the initial part of 2028, it intends to construct an 80-megawatt data center in Cheonan, South Chungcheong Province, utilizing a prefabricated design to reduce the construction timeframe.
