LG Uplus has purchased Pago Networks, a Korean cybersecurity company focused on managed detection and response (MDR) services, as the telecom operator aims to enhance its security in the age of artificial intelligence (AI).

The purchase is part of LG Uplus' initiatives to enhance its cybersecurity capabilities and expand its business-to-business (B2B) security operations as a future growth driver.

The acquisition signifies LG Uplus' second corporate purchase since acquiring LG HelloVision in 2019.

Pago Networks offers MDR services, where security experts continuously monitor, analyze, and respond to security incidents. Utilizing its exclusive DeepACT platform, the company provides services to clients in various sectors such as finance, manufacturing, and information technology while also extending its reach to seven countries in Southeast Asia.

LG Uplus intends to utilize Pago Networks’ MDR knowledge to create a cohesive security system that encompasses authentication, networks, security surveillance, and threat management.

It aims to grow its B2B security business by utilizing its improved capabilities.

Since assuming his role, LG Uplus CEO Hong Bum-shik has highlighted growth based on customer trust, pinpointing security, quality, and safety as the company’s three key foundations. During MWC 2026, the organization presented its “Secure AI” plan aimed at enhancing security for AI services, data, and infrastructure.

The worldwide cybersecurity sector is growing swiftly as well. Global market research company Deep Market Insights forecasts that the worldwide cybersecurity sector will expand from $260.6 billion in 2025 to $916.9 billion by 2034. Korea’s market is projected to grow from $2.89 billion to $9.89 billion during this timeframe, indicating an average yearly growth rate of 14.7 percent.

Kwon Yong-hyun, the executive vice president of LG Uplus, stated that the acquisition would allow the company to offer corporate clients enhanced security services while bolstering its security response abilities.

Earlier, LG Uplus and Samsung Electronics collaborated to explore technologies that may revolutionize mobile networks in the 6G era, transforming communication infrastructure into systems that can detect and understand the physical environment surrounding them. LG Uplus announced on Friday that it has reached a memorandum of understanding with Samsung Electronics to collaboratively explore integrated sensing and communication technology (ISAC), as well as AI-related 6G applications.

The collaboration unites Samsung Research, Samsung Electronics' cutting-edge research and development branch, with LG Uplus' expertise in commercial network operations to evaluate if next-generation technologies created in labs can operate effectively in practical telecommunications settings.

The firms stated that their partnership would concentrate on sensing technologies utilizing base stations and AI-integrated 6G systems, aiming to contribute to future 6G standards and innovative commercial services in the long run.

ISAC technology enables telecommunications infrastructure, such as mobile base stations, to operate as sensors that can identify their surroundings while also sending data. The technology has surfaced as one of the most monitored ideas in the pursuit of 6G commercialization since it may extend networks beyond communications into domains like mobility, safety, and intelligent infrastructure.

Last year, LG Uplus recognized ISAC as a fundamental element of future 6G networks in a white paper. Lee Sang-yeob, the chief technology officer and executive vice president at LG Uplus, stated that the success of upcoming communications technologies will rely on their performance in real-world network settings.
