
Ministries Ink AI Transformation Pact for South Korea Industries

The Ministry of SMEs and Startups, the Ministry of Science and ICT, and the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy announced they would execute a business partnership to promote artificial intelligence transformation (AX) implementation throughout various sectors. The signing ceremony took place at the main conference hall of the r located in Jongno-gu, Seoul.
This partnership represents a coordinated governmental initiative to incorporate rapidly advancing artificial intelligence technology into industrial environments, aiming to enhance national competitiveness and improve corporate productivity.
The three ministries chose to consolidate their previously independent AI support programs into a comprehensive support framework that covers everything from obtaining essential AX technologies to practical implementation and extension to startups, small and medium enterprises, and small business owners.

The primary collaboration focus areas include: enhancing AX competencies throughout industries and developing internal core technologies, facilitating technology commercialization for AI ventures, startups, small and medium enterprises, and small merchants, establishing an AX ecosystem that revolves around regional industries, and thoroughly executing AI-related national policy initiatives. Furthermore, the ministries intend to facilitate technological exchanges among industry-academia-research professionals within their respective departments and collaborate closely to generate tangible results that communities, workplaces, and citizens can experience.
Minister Han Seong-sook of the Ministry of SMEs and Startups says, “In an era of an AI great transformation that fundamentally changes the landscape of industry and business, it is an even more urgent situation in which small and midsize enterprises and small merchants will find it hard to survive if they do not use AI".
"By enabling ventures, startups, small and midsize enterprises, and small merchants to leverage government infrastructure and large corporations’ AI technology and experience through this agreement among the three ministries".
It will provide new growth opportunities for AI ventures and startups, and serve as an important turning point for small and midsize enterprises and small merchants to secure future competitiveness.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister Bae Kyung-hoon of the Ministry of Science and ICT says, “The AI great transformation is not merely a technological innovation; it is a national survival strategy that determines national competitiveness and future prosperity,” noting, “We must combine AI with our manufacturing DNA strengths to build technology that draws global attention, and to that end the three ministries will cooperate like one team to push consistent policies.”
Minister Kim Jung-kwan of the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy says, “An AI great transformation is the only solution to overcome the crises facing our industries, such as population decline, stagnant productivity, and China’s technological catch-up,” emphasizing, “To survive the speed race for survival, we must tightly connect AI, data, and the manufacturing floor, and leverage our strengths as a fulcrum to achieve technological innovation and the advancement of manufacturing.”

Im Moon-young, standing vice chair of the National Artificial Intelligence Strategy Committee says, “With today’s MOU among the three ministries as a starting point, we will form a manufacturing task force under the committee and focus on supporting an AI-based industrial great transformation going forward.
