Party Chief Meets With UK Deputy Prime Minister in London

General Secretary Lam expressed his congratulations to Lammy regarding his new appointment and acknowledged his longstanding support for Vietnam-UK diplomatic relations. He provided details about his discussions with the UK Prime Minister and parliamentary officials, covering key strategic directions and initiatives to strengthen bilateral cooperation through Party, State, Government, National Assembly, and citizen-level exchanges.
Lam noted that Lammy represents the first UK official he has encountered following the elevation of their nations' relationship to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

He recommended that after his visit, both administrations should promptly develop an Action Plan, strengthen current cooperative frameworks, and create additional mechanisms where necessary. His objective, he explained, involves enhancing collaboration, building political confidence, increasing bilateral trade to 15 billion USD, and initiating multiple signature projects that demonstrate the partnership's expanding influence.
Lammy responded by characterizing the relationship enhancement as a significant historical achievement, confirming that both nations possess an enduring friendship and considerable opportunities for enhanced cooperation.
He emphasized trade and investment, national defense and security, energy, innovation, aviation, and maritime safety as key areas for collaboration, while committing to streamline visa processes for skilled Vietnamese professionals.

The Vietnamese leader extended an invitation to UK Government officials to visit Vietnam in the near future to enhance dialogue and partnership, and specifically invited Lammy for an upcoming visit, which the host graciously accepted.
Before the meeting took place, General Secretary Lam and Deputy PM Lammy engaged with representatives from the UK - Vietnam Network, led by former UK Ambassador to Vietnam Mark Kent.

Founded in 2013, this network brings together British organizations and individuals who have connections to Vietnam. It strengthens partnerships in commerce, education, cultural affairs, and interpersonal relations, helping to build deeper mutual understanding and friendship between the citizens and institutions of both nations.
