RI, China Reiterate Partnership in Energy and Climate Action

Indonesia and China reaffirm their dedication to enhance collaboration in energy and climate initiatives during a discussion between Indonesia's Environment Minister Jumhur Hidayat and China's Special Envoy for Climate Change Liu Zhenmin.

The meeting occurred in Jakarta to advance the commitments made by Indonesian and Chinese leaders to prioritize environmental and green cooperation as a central aspect of bilateral relations.

"Indonesia believes that environment protection is not a burden in development. It is a foundation of sustainable economic growth," Minister Hidayat said according to a statement from the Environment Ministry.

Hidayat stated that Indonesia endorses development through an environmental protection framework to enhance community welfare and guarantee that the green economy benefits every sector of society.

In the meeting, Hidayat mentioned that Indonesia has implemented a new strategy for climate action by combining mitigation, adaptation, and welfare as its key foundations. He also voiced optimism that the collaboration between Indonesia and China will keep providing mutual advantages and broaden to additional areas related to energy and climate initiatives.

"We expect the cooperation to be oriented to real actions, such as innovation, green investment, transfer of technology, and capacity building, to ensure direct benefits for the people of our nations and contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)," Minister Hidayat remarks.

 

In response, Liu Zhenmin conveyed his heartfelt gratitude for Indonesia's leadership in the developing world and reaffirmed China's dedication to enhancing strategic collaboration.

The statement indicates that the officials concurred on prioritizing green collaboration between Indonesia and China in investments related to renewable energy, battery-powered electric vehicle systems, the solar panel sector, and supply chains for green industries.

"We are ready to deepen practical cooperation in climate change, clean energy, green technology, early warning systems, circular economy, and environmental protection.

"We are also ready to cooperate with Indonesia in upholding the interest of developing countries in global climate actions," Liu says.

Hidayat and Liu concurred that Indonesia and China need to enhance collaboration in early disaster warning systems, tropical rainforest conservation, waste-to-energy initiatives, and biodiversity protection, along with research, expert exchanges, and human resources development in the green sector.
