SAP and Petroleum Development Oman (PDO) are partnering to cultivate Omani digital talent by linking PDO’s Digital Innovation Program with the SAP Young Professionals program (YPP), establishing a route for upcoming professionals to explore careers in technology consulting.
Participants in PDO’s Digital Innovation Program are anticipated to join the upcoming SAP YPP cohort, set to commence in November, with ongoing education in enterprise technology and artificial intelligence.
The partnership was emphasized during PDO’s Digital Innovation Program graduation event in Muscat, where SAP YPP participants finalized their training as well.
“Building local digital skills is important both for the young people entering the workforce and for organizations that need access to qualified technology professionals,” says Waheed Al Hamaid, Head of Enterprise Solutions at PDO.

Offered by the Digital Skills Center, SAP YPP equips recent graduates with training and certifications to begin careers as SAP consultants within the company's partner and customer network.
In Oman, recent graduates received certifications in SAP Generative AI development and executing end-to-end business processes for SAP Business Suite. Their training encompassed hands-on experience with SAP Generative AI Hub and SAP AI Launchpad, addressing topics like prompt engineering, template administration, and workflow orchestration.
As companies progressively incorporate AI into their workflows, there is a rising need for experts who grasp both business applications and the real-world use of AI in those contexts.

“AI is changing the skills expected of technology consultants, and this needs to be reflected in how we prepare people entering the profession,” says Alp Geckalan, Head of Digital Skills Center at SAP.
“They need a strong understanding of enterprise processes as well as the ability to work with new AI tools. Working with PDO allows us to bring these areas together and give Omani graduates skills they can take into the workplace.”
PDO’s Digital Innovation Program aids Omani talent through training, hands-on challenges, and interaction with technology firms.
The first eight-week cohort wrapped up on September 22, having provided over 5,000 training hours facilitated by more than 40 trainers, including SAP as one of the tech companies and institutions involved.

The upcoming SAP YPP cohort for Oman and other nations in SAP’s Fast Growth Markets cluster is set to commence in mid-November and last for two months, offering chosen graduates specialized training, certifications, and access to job opportunities within SAP's customer and partner network.
