State President Outlines Directions for National Defence

At a national political-military conference in Ha Noi, State President Luong Cuong underscored the importance of the military taking proactive and effective measures to advance international integration and defense diplomacy to safeguard national interests.
The conference was co-organized by the Central Military Commission and the Ministry of National Defence with the goal of evaluating the results of military and national defense tasks in 2025 and setting goals for the next year.

President Cuong emphasized that the military has played a significant role in the country's development despite facing challenges in the global landscape.
He called on the Central Military Commission, Ministry of National Defence leaders, and military commanders at all levels to maintain their effective strategic advisory role with the Party and State on military and defense issues.
It is important for them to be proactive, responsive, and improve their skills in research, forecasting, and developing effective solutions to various situations. This will help ensure that the military is always ready and prepared for any scenarios.
The President requested the organized and precise execution of strategies to create a robust and contemporary national defense system.

This includes setting up effective military defenses in military zones and at different defense levels within the framework of the two-tier local governance model. Moreover, he emphasized the importance of maintaining the policy of linking defense with economic development and vice versa. This can be achieved by maximizing the role of military-economic units and economic-defense brigades in supporting socio-economic progress, stabilizing populations in border regions and islands, and enhancing the defense system to protect the country's sovereignty over its land, borders, oceans, and islands.
President Cuong emphasized the importance of establishing a modern, elite, and highly skilled People's Army that can enhance overall combat ability, sustain readiness for combat operations, and adjust training according to new operational circumstances. He also highlighted the need for the military to protect air, sea, border, domestic, and cyber domains, as well as upgrade weapons and equipment to align with the standards of a contemporary defense force.
He emphasized the significance of enhancing alliances, developing trust with neighboring nations, long-standing allies, and major global powers, and actively participating in international defense conferences and peace missions to garner maximum support for Vietnam's defense objectives.

To further enhance the leadership and growth of the Party Organization of the Viet Nam People’s Army, the President emphasized the importance of concentrating on improving the leadership skills and combat capabilities of Party committees and organizations at all levels.
The President also highlighted the significance of practicing democratic centralism, encouraging self-criticism and constructive criticism, and enhancing supervision and anti-corruption measures to prevent deterioration and internal self-evolution and self-transformation. President Cuong, drawing on the strong legacy of the brave Viet Nam People’s Army, conveyed his belief that the Central Military Commission, the Ministry of National Defence, and all soldiers will effectively fulfill their duties. He emphasized the importance of unity with the Party and civilians in defending the country and advancing towards a future of growth, success, and joy for the Vietnamese populace.
