President of the National Assembly and Speaker of the House of Representatives of Thailand, Sophon Zaram, landed in Ha Noi, starting his three-day official visit to Vietnam at the invitation of National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man.

Receiving the Thai leader and his delegation at Noi Bai International Airport were Vietnamese NA Vice Chairman Nguyen Doan Anh and Standing Vice Chairman of the NA's Committee for National Defence, Security, and Foreign Affairs Vu Hai Ha.

The visiting group consists of Thai Ambassador to Vietnam Urawadee Sriphiromya, House of Representatives members, senior parliamentary officials, and advisers.

The visit holds special importance as it aligns with the 50th anniversary of Vietnam–Thailand diplomatic ties (August 6, 1976 – 2026). This comes after Party General Secretary and State President To Lam's formal trip to Thailand in late May and Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul's trip to Vietnam in June.

The visit emphasizes Thailand's strong appreciation for its relationship with Vietnam and showcases both legislatures' commitment to furthering parliamentary diplomacy while enacting agreements made by the high-ranking officials of both nations, including the 2023–2028 partnership accord between the Vietnamese NA and the Thai House of Representatives.

He conveyed assurance that the trip will facilitate the swift execution of bilateral cooperation agreements while broadening collaboration in trade, investment, connectivity, education, science and technology, innovation, exchanges between people, and ASEAN cooperation.

The visit demonstrates Vietnam's foreign policy, outlined in the Resolution of the 14th National Party Congress, which prioritizes relations with neighboring countries and ASEAN member states, including Thailand.

Vietnam and Thailand have experienced strong advancements in their overall strategic partnership. Bilateral trade has consistently shown remarkable growth, with Thailand retaining its status as Vietnam's biggest trading partner in ASEAN. Significantly, Thailand has emerged as the eighth-biggest foreign investor in Vietnam.

In 2025, bilateral trade amounted to 22.1 billion USD, a nine percent increase from 2024. In the first half of 2026, bilateral trade surpassed 13.3 billion USD, marking a 27 percent increase compared to the previous year, while Vietnam's exports grew by 33 percent to over 5.6 billion USD. Thailand has 804 valid investment projects in Vietnam, with a total registered capital exceeding 15.4 billion USD, placing it eighth among 153 countries and territories investing in Vietnam and second among ASEAN investors.

Both parties are also collaborating to establish concrete actions to effectively carry out the "Three Connects" strategy, which includes supply chain integration, connections between enterprises and regions in both nations, and harmonization of sustainable development plans.
