Trade Minister Vows to Stabilize Korea-US Trade Relations

Trade Minister Yeo Han-koo appeared at an exclusive luncheon organized by the American Chamber of Commerce in Korea (AMCHAM), reiterating Seoul's ongoing commitment to enhancing trade relations with the US, according to a statement from Minister Yeo's office.
During the exclusive event, Yeo and AMCHAM Chairman James Kim conducted a private meeting to discuss the current policy direction of the Korean government in response to changes in global trade dynamics.

The agenda also included deliberations on enhancing investment cooperation between Korea and the US and implementing strategies to enhance Korea's foreign direct investment environment.
This information was provided by the Ministry of Trade, Industry, and Resources and the US business lobby. They engaged in discussions with over 110 members of AMCHAM, such as industry influencers and stakeholders to share perspectives on methods for enhancing stability within the US-Korea trade ties and promoting mutual economic collaboration.
"The Korean government will faithfully implement the tariff agreement reached between the two countries while proactively sharing progress with the US government and business community to enhance the stability of the Korea-US trade environment and further strengthen economic cooperation," Yeo said in his opening remarks.
He also expressed appreciation for the ongoing financial contributions made by American corporations, highlighting that the amount of foreign direct investment from the US into Korea achieved an unprecedented peak in the previous year.

Kim expressed that AMCHAM is in full support of the initiatives undertaken by the Korean government and is dedicated to collaborating closely with Seoul to enhance the trade partnership between Korea and the US.
Previously, high-ranking defense officials from South Korea and the US engaged in discussions in Seoul to explore opportunities for enhancing their joint sustainment capabilities, as reported by South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS).
The initial official interaction between the Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) and the US Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) took place during a meeting between Koo Sang-mo, the JCS' chief director of military support, and Mark Simerly, director of DLA, as announced by the JCS. The two parties conversed on methods to enhance their joint sustainment capabilities grounded on the unwavering Korea-US alliance and agreed that sustainment operations play a crucial role in a evolving security landscape.

Koo emphasized the importance of collaboration with the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA), responsible for providing logistical support to US military forces worldwide, to uphold the collective defense posture. He advocated for enhancing coordination between the two entities to guarantee prompt and sustained military assistance in the event of an emergency. Simerly responded by affirming that the US places a high importance on supply chain management within the Indo-Pacific Command to safeguard Korea, a crucial ally.
He also committed to enhancing collaboration with South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff to fortify their partnership. The JCS confirmed that both parties have mutually agreed to enhance and maintain frequent communication between their respective entities to explore opportunities for enhancing their collaboration. Simerly arrived in Korea on Tuesday with the purpose of evaluating the defense logistics situation for the US Forces Korea and the combined logistics posture during his three-day trip. This visit represents the inaugural occasion that a DLA director has visited Korea for this specific purpose.
