US Clears $73 Million HIMARS Upgrade Deal for Singapore

Singapore’s request to upgrade its M142 High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems (HIMARS) has been approved by the United States government in a deal estimated at about US$73 million.
The US State Department confirmed in a statement on Monday (June 15) that Singapore had sought to procure 18 upgrade kits for the Common Fire Control Systems (CFCS) used in its rocket artillery platforms.
The CFCS uses advanced digital processing to control launcher operations and manage weapons systems, improving targeting accuracy, responsiveness, and overall battlefield efficiency.
According to reports, these upgrades are intended to strengthen system integration and ensure continued reliability of the platform in modern combat environments. The HIMARS has been in service with the Singapore Armed Forces since 2010 and remains a key long-range precision strike capability.
Singapore’s Ministry of Defence (MINDEF) said in response to media queries that the HIMARS continues to play an important role in the armed forces’ operational readiness. It added that ongoing modernization efforts aim to ensure the system remains effective amid evolving operational requirements and training needs.

The US State Department emphasized that the approval of the upgrade kits would not alter the basic military balance in the region.
However, it noted that the enhancement would improve Singapore’s ability, which Washington considers a strategic partner contributing to regional stability and economic growth in Asia, to respond to current and emerging security challenges.
