Vietnam's Top Leader Meets With Indian President

The General Secretary of the Communist Party of Viet Nam Central Committee and State President, To Lam, had a meeting with Indian President Droupadi Murmu in New Delhi in the afternoon of May 6 (local time) during his official visit to India.
President Droupadi Murmu cordially welcomed General Secretary and President To Lam during his official visit to India and congratulated him on his election as State President by the 16th National Assembly of Vietnam.

General Secretary and President To Lam expressed his genuine gratitude to President Droupadi Murmu, the government, and the people of India for their courteous, heartfelt, and warm hospitality towards him and the senior Vietnamese delegation.
He shared his happiness about coming back to India, a country known for its beauty and rich traditions.
He also praised India for its impressive developmental accomplishments and admired President Murmu for promoting educational efforts and the creation of top-notch human resources in India.
During the meeting, General Secretary and President To Lam emphasized that Vietnam consistently prioritizes its relationship with India. He stated that Viet Nam endorses India's increased involvement in regional and global multilateral forums and supports India's "Act East" policy as well as its efforts to enhance ties with ASEAN nations.
The host was informed by General Secretary and President To Lam about his highly successful discussions with Prime Minister Narendra Modi earlier that day. He mentioned that both parties had decided to elevate their bilateral relationship to an 'Enhanced Comprehensive Strategic Partnership,' grounded in a shared vision, strategic alignment, and meaningful cooperation.

Both parties also concurred on enhancing high-level visits and exchanges to reinforce political trust. They intend to expand defense cooperation, with a focus on the defense industry. They aim to initiate significant advancements in economic and trade collaborations.
Additionally, they will encourage comprehensive cooperation in science and technology, covering areas such as information technology, artificial intelligence, 6G, renewable energy, emerging technologies, rare earths, and the peaceful application of atomic energy.
President Murmu praised the outcomes of the discussions between General Secretary and President To Lam and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
She expressed her satisfaction that the two nations had elevated their relationship to an "Enhanced Comprehensive Strategic Partnership" during the visit, which marked the 10th anniversary of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two countries. The Indian leader expressed enthusiasm for the signing of multiple agreements related to cooperation in fields such as science and technology, cybersecurity, healthcare, critical minerals, and tourism during the visit of General Secretary and President To Lam.

Expressing her firm support for further enhancing bilateral relations under the new framework, she highlighted that closer ties would offer tangible benefits to the citizens of both countries, pointing out that partnership in healthcare would result in consumers having access to more high-quality medical products at affordable prices. Highlighting the fact that India consistently views Vietnam as one of its key partners in its “Act East” policy and the “Indo-Pacific Oceans Initiative,” President Murmu confirmed that Vietnam and India have a longstanding traditional relationship grounded in historical, civilizational, and religious values, which continue to be apparent today.
