Vietnam-Laos Ties Nurtured by the People: PM Le Minh Hung

The special relationship between Vietnam and Laos is nurtured not only by the two countries’ leaders but also by their people and businesses, Prime Minister Le Minh Hung said, highlighting the important role of the Vietnamese community in Laos in strengthening bilateral ties.
During his official visit to the neighboring country, PM Hung toured the Vietnamese Embassy in Vientiane and engaged with its personnel, Vietnamese agency representatives, associations, and the local Vietnamese community. At present, over 100,000 Vietnamese individuals reside, study, and work in Laos.
Every Vietnamese citizen, by taking tangible steps, can aid the motherland while assisting in the development of Laos, thus enhancing the profound and unique bond between Vietnam and Laos, he emphasized.

The PM conveyed that he had suggested the Lao authorities maintain supportive conditions for Vietnamese citizens to reside peacefully, adapt to local communities, and enhance the unique bilateral ties. He emphasized the importance of his visit in turning significant agreements between the two Parties and nations into tangible actions, creating new momentum for key strategic cooperation initiatives.
Updating the community on Vietnam’s internal conditions, PM Hung stated that 2026 would be the initial year for executing the Resolution from the 14th National Party Congress and the socio-economic development plan for 2026–2030. Despite swift and intricate global changes, Vietnam has preserved favorable economic growth, macroeconomic stability, and social welfare during the year's first half, while enhancing foreign relations and international integration.
He specifically emphasized the Politburo’s Resolution No. 23-NQ/TW, issued on August 2, 2026, concerning matters involving Vietnamese citizens overseas. The resolution recognizes overseas Vietnamese as not just a vital component of the Vietnamese nation, but also as a key strategic asset for enhancing national capabilities. It requires a transition from rallying and assisting the community to collaborating and empowering it, fully utilizing its resources, especially those of intellectuals, experts, entrepreneurs, scientists, and the youth.
He conveyed gratitude for the Vietnamese community’s role in Vietnam’s historical fight for national independence and its ongoing work to protect and advance the nation.
He praised Vietnamese businesspeople in Laos and community groups for increasing investment, engaging in commerce, generating employment, and hosting events that enhance community connections and promote bilateral friendships.

The Government leader encouraged Vietnamese citizens in Laos to uphold unity, engage actively, adhere to Lao regulations, and teach younger generations about their national heritage and the unique relationship between Vietnam and Laos. He referred to Laos as a nation experiencing vibrant change and new prospects, urging Vietnamese companies and expatriates to increase their investments, foster innovation, and enhance economic ties between both nations.
PM Hung committed to guiding relevant ministries and agencies to examine the community’s suggestions and find prompt resolutions to valid issues. He additionally urged Vietnamese representative agencies in Laos to enhance interaction with the community, maintain Vietnamese cultural identity, advocate for Vietnamese-language education, and support national development by encouraging investments, education, science, technology, and exchanges among people.

He conveyed optimism that the Vietnamese community in Laos will persist in flourishing and aiding in the development of both nations, thereby enhancing the strong friendship, unique solidarity, extensive collaboration, and strategic unity between the Parties, States, and citizens of the two countries. The meeting marked the end of the Prime Minister’s official trip to Laos. He subsequently departed Vientiane for Phnom Penh to commence an official visit to Cambodia.
