WWF-Singapore, Great Eastern Partner on Nature Project Insurance

WWF-Singapore and Great Eastern have partnered to develop an insurance programme aimed at mitigating risks associated with nature-based solutions (NbS) projects and attracting greater investment into environmental initiatives.
The collaboration will establish a risk management framework and provide financial support towards insurance costs for nature-focused projects, beginning with initiatives backed by WWF-Singapore’s Canopy Nature Finance Facility.
Canopy is a Singapore-based platform that brings together different sources of financing to support projects focused on restoring and protecting Southeast Asia’s natural ecosystems.
Under the partnership, Great Eastern will lead the design and development of insurance products, working alongside third-party brokers to conduct risk assessments and develop suitable insurance arrangements.
WWF-Singapore will oversee the Canopy platform, assess and evaluate potential projects, engage with investment partners, and support the development of financing strategies and risk management frameworks, the organisation said.

According to WWF-Singapore, the proposed insurance solutions will cover a range of risks, including project failure, non-delivery of carbon credits, carbon credit eligibility issues, natural disasters and climate-related events.

The programme will also focus on developing and testing insurance solutions that can help nature-based projects manage financial uncertainties, improve investor confidence and attract additional capital.
By addressing some of the risks associated with nature-based investments, the partnership aims to strengthen the financial structures supporting ecosystem restoration and other nature-positive initiatives across the region.
The programme will run for one year, commencing on 26 October 2026.
