Ayezat Nulhakeem Youslee, Managing Director of Hydrateq Services Sdn. Bhd is one such leader whose career reflects a rare combination of technical excellence, entrepreneurial spirit, and continuous professional development.

Ayezat's journey into the water industry began immediately after earning a Diploma in Mechanical Engineering (Automotive) from Politeknik Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin, Dungun, Terengganu, in 2008.

Entering the Non-Revenue Water (NRW) sector as an Assistant Technician at Jalur Cahaya Sdn. Bhd., he spent the next eleven years gaining invaluable hands-on experience. Through dedication and technical competence, he steadily progressed into increasingly specialized and supervisory positions before ultimately becoming an NRW Executive.

His extensive field experience provided an in-depth understanding of water distribution systems, leak detection, and the operational realities faced by utilities. This practical foundation became the driving force behind his entrepreneurial journey.

In August 2019, Ayezat co-founded Hydrateq Services Sdn. Bhd., formally incorporating the company the following month in Kuching to deliver innovative and reliable solutions for Malaysia's water industry.

Committed to lifelong learning, Ayezat is a registered Qualified Technician with the Malaysia Board of Technologists, an active member of the International Water Association, and a regular participant at leading industry forums including Asia Water, the Water Losses Conference, BIWWEC, and the National Water Supply Symposium.

Currently pursuing an MBA part-time, he continues to strengthen both his technical and business capabilities, believing that impactful leadership requires constant growth. Today, Ayezat stands as a respected industry leader dedicated to advancing sustainable water management and supporting Malaysia's evolving infrastructure needs.

What are your leadership philosophy and professional values that have consistently guided your approach to building capable teams, maintaining engineering excellence, and delivering long-term value to clients?

My leadership philosophy is built on precision, transparency, and partnership. Every decision must be driven by data rather than assumptions because utilities rely on us to make informed investment decisions. I encourage my team to challenge ideas, think critically, and continuously improve our solutions.

At the same time, I believe we succeed by becoming trusted partners to our clients, not just service providers. Reducing non-revenue water is a long-term journey, so honest communication, collaboration, and trust remain the values that guide every project and every relationship we build.

Which emerging trends do you believe will have the greatest impact, and how is Hydrateq Services positioning itself to capitalize on these opportunities?

I believe the biggest shift is the growing recognition of non-revenue water as a national water security issue rather than simply an operational concern. Technologies such as acoustic leak detection, smart data loggers, GIS mapping, hydraulic modelling, and advanced pressure management are transforming how utilities manage water losses.

At Hydrateq Services, we have built our services around these innovations by combining data-driven strategies with advanced monitoring technologies. Our goal is to provide utilities with practical, measurable solutions that improve efficiency while setting new standards for NRW management in Malaysia.

Could you elaborate on your core services and explain how they help utilities improve infrastructure performance and long-term sustainability?

Our expertise is dedicated entirely to Non-Revenue Water management and water distribution infrastructure rather than general construction or structural rehabilitation. We provide NRW audits, active leakage control, District Metered Area (DMA) establishment, pressure management, and water main construction and rehabilitation.

These services help utilities accurately identify water losses, optimize network performance, and reduce unnecessary leakage. By improving operational efficiency and extending the lifespan of water distribution systems, we enable utilities to recover valuable water resources, improve revenue generation, and deliver more reliable water services to communities.

Could you share one leadership experience that significantly shaped your approach to project delivery and organizational growth?

One defining experience involved establishing District Metered Areas across an aging network in Sibu, Sarawak. We discovered that existing pipeline records were inaccurate, making the original project timeline unrealistic.

Rather than compromising quality, I openly discussed the situation with the client and requested additional time to complete proper network verification. That decision ultimately revealed major hidden leaks and produced far better results than expected.

The experience reinforced my belief that transparency, technical integrity, and prioritizing long-term outcomes over short-term deadlines are essential to building lasting client trust.

Looking ahead, what is your long-term vision for Hydrateq Services, and how do you hope to contribute to sustainable water management across Malaysia and the ASEAN region?

My vision is to establish Hydrateq Services as the leading Non-Revenue Water solutions partner for utilities across Malaysia and the ASEAN region. Beyond delivering technical expertise, I want us to help utilities build lasting internal capabilities so that effective water loss management becomes part of their long-term operations.

I also hope to contribute by sharing industry knowledge, developing local talent, and supporting stronger national NRW reduction initiatives. Ultimately, I want Hydrateq to play a meaningful role in protecting water resources and strengthening regional water security for future generations.
