Dawan Alaadin
CEO
In a country where environmental awareness is still emerging, establishing world-class monitoring and sustainable practices is no small task. Turning vision into action in such a complex landscape requires not just expertise, but foresight, resilience, and a deep understanding of both local and international standards. From an industrial growth that is usually faster than the regulatory measure in Iraq, Dawan Alaadin has silently transformed the environmental services industry, with a combination of innovations and practicability that have been producing effective and scalable solutions. He is CEO of Landvin Environmental Service, a Kurdistan Region of Iraq based company that spearheads sustainable environment practices.
Dawan’s career began with a strong passion for environmental engineering and consulting. Initially he worked in the oil and gas industry, focusing on environmental consulting and waste management. In 2016, he forayed into air quality monitoring whereby he designed state-of-the-art solutions and managed projects in the major international companies that operated in Kurdistan and Iraq.
Under Dawan’s leadership, Landvin Environmental Services has achieved major milestones such as ISO certification of environmental auditing service and accomplishment of environmental & social impact assessment according to international criteria. Landvin Environmental Services has also become the first company to get registered under the Ministry of Environment in Iraq.
Having offices in Erbil, Baghdad, Basra, London, and a future office in Dubai, Dawan has been able to expand the presence of his company and promote innovation, inclusiveness, and sustainable development. We are glad to feature an insightful interaction with Dawan, where he highlights his career path and the principles that define his leadership approach.
What motivation fuels your daily routine?
My daily motivation comes from a deep commitment to environmental protection and the responsibility I feel towards my community. Growing up surrounded by nature shaped my values, and witnessing the impact of climate change on our region pushes me to drive meaningful change. I pay attention to the reinforced environmental services, promoting green movements, and promoting systems such as air-quality monitoring networks. In my case, it is not just business, but a mission-oriented goal of protecting our cities, our citizens and the future generations.
How do you structure your leadership approach when guiding your team?
I lead my team with a family-focused and collaborative approach. Although I am the fFounder and Director, I believe our success relies on collective effort, not titles. We build strong relationships based on trust, open communication, and mutual respect.
While job descriptions exist, we go beyond them, supporting one another, filling gaps, and ensuring no one stands alone. My fundamental principle is to establish a cohesive atmosphere in which all parties feel responsible, appreciated, and enabled to make a contribution to the development of the team.
How are emerging technologies expected to advance modern waste management practices?
Emerging technologies such as AI-driven monitoring systems, advanced data analysis tools, and modernized air-quality devices are transforming waste management practices. These innovations make monitoring more accurate, efficient, and compact compared to traditional large stations. Through the incorporation of the most recent technologies, we will be able to enhance reporting, promote sustainability efforts, and contribute to a cleaner future for our environment.
What key trends will define the future of the environmental services industry
The future of the environmental services industry will be shaped by stronger government regulations, increased policy updates, and closer cooperation between private companies and regulators. As an international consortium, we actively support the government in modernizing environmental policies and ensure full alignment with both local and global standards. Such changing laws and joint initiatives are some of the driving forces that determine the way our industry is going and developing.
How do you approach hiring and incorporating Gen Z talent in your organization?
Hiring Gen Z brings both strengths and challenges. They are highly skilled with new technologies, especially AI, and can quickly produce efficient, well-researched outputs. However, they often lack real field experience and practical exposure compared to earlier generations. The ability to balance their technological advantages and advice from experienced professionals helps in developing an effective and well-coordinated workforce.
What future roadmap have you envisioned for yourself for the next five years?
My five-year roadmap focuses on expanding our environmental services company, opening new branches, and hiring talented young graduates in Kurdistan and Iraq. I also aim to strengthen collaboration with the government in Erbil and Baghdad to implement comprehensive air quality monitoring systems across Iraq, positioning our company as a national leader in environmental solutions.
What is the one piece of advice that you'd like to pass on to leaders of tomorrow?
Always be honest and transparent with clients, regardless of outcomes. This builds trust. Additionally, engage with new people, attend international conferences, and expand your network beyond familiar circles.
