Sawita Suwansawat
Founder & Managing Partner
Thailand’s startup ecosystem has grown rapidly over the past decade, driven by innovation, government initiatives, and a new generation of entrepreneurial leaders. Startup leaders in the country are increasingly shaping sectors ranging from fintech and e-Commerce to renewable energy and biotechnology.
Among Thailand’s prominent figures supporting this ecosystem is Sawita Suwansawat, the Founder and Managing Partner of MSC International Law Office. Under her leadership, MSC has become a boutique law firm recognized for its expertise in capital markets, corporate governance, mergers and acquisitions, and initial public offerings.
With over 18 years of experience, Sawita has advised a diverse portfolio of clients spanning power, real estate, and telecommunications sectors, offering strategic guidance that enables growth and regulatory compliance.
Sawita’s professional journey is underpinned by her academic achievements, including degrees from Thammasat University and the University of Essex. Her work has earned recognition from prestigious institutions such as Asia-Pacific Legal 500 and IFLR1000, reflecting her standing as a leading legal expert in the region.
Beyond her advisory role at MSC, she also contributes her expertise as an independent director on the boards of several companies, helping shape governance strategies and corporate policies. Her work exemplifies how expert legal guidance can empower startups to navigate complex markets while achieving sustainable growth.
With nearly two decades of experience at reputed organizations, what inspired you to establish and lead your own practice?
After years at top-tier firms, I realized that clients needed more than technical legal advice, they sought a partner who could blend legal precision with business insight, offer a proven track record, and provide clear guidance on strategy and legal terms.
I founded MSC to build a practice that is independent, approachable, agile, and uncompromising in quality, where decisions are guided by integrity and the client’s success rather than bureaucracy.
From your observation, what challenges and opportunities are currently facing law firms specializing in corporate law, M&As, and IPOs?
Law firms in corporate law, M&A, and IPOs are navigating stricter regulations, market volatility, and slower IPO activity, alongside rising costs, talent retention challenges, and growing competition from global firms and legal tech. Post-deal risks and cybersecurity issues also demand careful attention.
Yet, opportunities are abundant, ESG-driven deals are increasing, legal tech enhances efficiency, and cross-border transactions in emerging markets are expanding. Alternative IPO models and rising private equity activity create fresh deal flow. Firms focusing on niche expertise, flexible pricing, and top talent can gain a strong edge.
Lead by example, listen actively, and empower others
How has technology, such as AI and legal tech tools, impacted your work and the legal services your firm delivers?
Technology has transformed how we work, enhancing both efficiency and accuracy. AI and legal tech aren’t replacing lawyers, they’re tools that free us from repetitive tasks so we can focus on strategy, negotiation, and judgment. Routine processes like contract review, due diligence, and document drafting are now faster and less error-prone.
Legal tech platforms also streamline collaboration through virtual deal rooms and case management. This enables us to provide more strategic, timely, and cost-effective legal services while addressing complex client needs.
How would you describe your leadership approach? How do you guide young professionals to develop their skills and gain experience?
My leadership approach focuses on mentorship, encouragement, and creating a supportive environment where young professionals feel empowered to learn and take on challenges. I provide clear guidance while allowing space for critical thinking and problem-solving.
By assigning meaningful tasks, of fering constructive feedback, and sharing real-world insights, I help them gain confidence and practical experience. I also promote continuous learning through training, workshops, and exposure to diverse cases, nurturing their growth into capable, independent lawyers ready for greater responsibilities.
What is your vision going forward?
My vision for MSC is to become a leading law firm recognized not only for technical excellence but also as a trusted strategic business advisor. We aim to expand our role in cross-border transactions, helping clients navigate complex international markets, while deepening expertise across all key practice areas to deliver innovative, tailored legal solutions.
Equally important is nurturing the next generation of legal talent in Thailand, equipping young lawyers with the skills and confidence to thrive. I envision MSC combining a global outlook with local insights to deliver exceptional value to clients.
In light of your experiences within the industry, what advice would you give to budding industry leaders?
My advice is to stay curious, resilient, and committed to continuous learning. The legal industry is constantly evolving, so adaptability is essential, but never compromise your core values, such as integrity and client service. Surround yourself with mentors and peers who challenge and inspire you.
Be ready to take calculated risks, understanding that leadership is about mindset, not title. Lead by example, listen actively, and empower others. With determination and humility, you can build trust and make a meaningful, lasting impact.
