Sherif Darwish

Co-Founder & CEO

As logistics becomes more digital and demanding, the companies that scale well are rarely the ones chasing speed alone. They are the ones that build strong systems behind the service. Sherif Darwish, Co-Founder and CEO of Blink, has built his career around that principle. Darwish earned a Bachelor's degree in English Language and Literature from The Open University, complemented by studies in psychology and sociology.

He later added professional training in Lean Six Sigma, software product management and IRCA OHSAS Lead Auditor standards. His career path was deliberately broad. While his core expertise remained in systems, process engineering, product and quality assurance, he sought exposure to HR, operations, finance and customer experience because he planned to build a company and wanted to understand how its major parts connect.

His career progressed from quality assurance at Teleperformance to leadership roles at Fetchr across HR, product management and process engineering. Working closely with the founder and CEO during rapid expansion gave him first-hand exposure to both the opportunities and structural risks that appear when a company scales. Those lessons later influenced the way he and his co-founder, Mohammed El Said, built Blink in 2020. Let’s read.

Leadership sometimes means taking decisions that are unpopular or painful in the short term because the long-term health of the company matters more than immediate comfort

Before leading Blink, which milestones had the greatest impact on your leadership philosophy?

The most valuable milestones were the ones that showed me how growth exposes weaknesses in systems. At Fetchr, I led process engineering and agile transformation initiatives that reduced process waste by 60%, and implemented a VAT system covering more than USD 10 million in transactions across three countries. The bigger lesson was that growth without strong processes, compliance and decision discipline becomes fragile.

At Blink, that thinking led us to step away from our largest client when the relationship started creating unhealthy concentration risk. It hurt in the short term, but protected the company's independence and forced us to build a more resilient portfolio.

What inspired Blink's vision, and what makes its business model distinctive?

Blink was created around a gap we saw in the logistics ecosystem. Many businesses were not struggling because delivery demand was missing, but because the operational infrastructure supporting that demand was fragmented.

We focused on building tailored operational frameworks around each client's workflow, combining people, controls, process design and technology. The objective is not growth for its own sake. It is to create operations that can scale without losing visibility, accountability, compliance or service quality.

Which trends will define the next generation of logistics services?

I believe the biggest shift will come from better integration, stronger data and more predictive operations. AI, automation and real-time visibility matter only when they solve a real business problem. I am cautious about adopting technology simply because it is fashionable.

The priority is to build reliable data, understand what it means, separate correlation from causation, and use it to improve decisions. Over time, logistics will become more connected to the wider digital ecosystem and increasingly predictive rather than purely reactive.

How do you balance efficiency, scalability and customer experience?

We design every important process so it can eventually be handed over without losing control or consistency. That means solving root causes rather than repeatedly repairing symptoms. Efficiency cannot come at the expense of compliance, workforce stability or service quality.

The industry is heavily focused on speed and low cost, but if those goals damage the structure underneath the service, the result is not sustainable growth. Good operations should make the business stronger as volume increases, not more fragile.

How have you built a culture of accountability and continuous improvement?

Accountability starts with realistic expectations and well-designed systems. New employees need a learning curve, structured onboarding, clear ownership and access to the right information. I do not expect employees to think or sacrifice exactly like founders, because they carry different responsibilities.

What I do expect is ownership within the role. When something fails, we first ask whether the process, training or tools were designed correctly before blaming the individual. The goal is to build systems that allow people to perform consistently and improve over time.

Could you share a challenge that reshaped your approach to leadership?

One of the clearest examples was choosing to reduce dependence on a major client even though it meant accepting a short-term revenue hit. It reinforced something I had learned earlier: revenue concentration can look like growth until it becomes dependency. Leadership sometimes means taking decisions that are unpopular or painful in the short term because the long-term health of the company matters more than immediate comfort.

What is your long-term vision for Blink?

I want Blink to prove that operational excellence, compliance, technology and sustainable growth can coexist. I do not believe logistics should be reduced to a race for the cheapest or fastest delivery at any cost. The stronger opportunity is to build a more resilient and intelligent operating model, with better data, stronger systems and diversified relationships. If Blink can contribute to raising the standard of how logistics is built and managed in the region, that would be a meaningful outcome.
