
China Industry Minister Meets With Apple's Tim Cook

Tim Cook, Apple's Chief Executive Officer, recently held a meeting with Jin Zhuanglong, China's minister for industry and information technology, speaking on matters about Apple's operations in China, cloud computing services, and the protection of digital data. Cook pledged to Jin that Apple would "maintain its commitment to expanding investments in China and support high-quality supply chain development."
This marks Cook's second journey to China within the current year. His previous visit occurred in March 2024, during which he inaugurated a new flagship Apple retail location in Shanghai and participated in Beijing's China Development Forum. Throughout his March visit, Cook highlighted the company's enduring dedication to the Chinese marketplace. "China represents the most essential supply chain globally for our operations," Cook remarked during that period.

Using the Chinese social networking site Sina Weibo, Cook shared that he had visited the Wangfujing Apple store to connect with both customers and staff members. His post also mentioned his positive experience meeting students from China Agricultural University and Zhejiang University, learning about their use of iPhones and iPads to assist farmers in implementing more effective and environmentally friendly methods.
China remains a crucial market for Apple beyond the US, representing the globe's biggest smartphone marketplace.
Counterpoint Research data indicates that iPhone 16 series sales in China increased by 20 percent during the initial three weeks when compared to the previous year's models, strengthening investor optimism despite some analysts' earlier worries about market demand.

The California-headquartered corporation announced that Apple Intelligence features are currently unavailable for iPhone devices bought in mainland China. Apple has not yet secured a partnership for its artificial intelligence services in China, particularly as OpenAI has implemented measures to restrict ChatGPT availability in the country.
Apple made a financial contribution of an undisclosed sum to Beijing's renowned Tsinghua University with the goal of "promoting environmental education and developing future leaders in climate action within China," as stated by the company.
The tech giant based in Cupertino, California had earlier backed the university's "Summer Institute for China's Green Innovators" initiative, which delivered training in environmental management and low-carbon development to over 20,000 participants, the statement indicated.

Additionally on Tuesday, Cook spent time interacting with customers at the Apple retail location in Shanghai's Pudong area. Subsequently, he encountered Chinese performer Wang Feifei during the filming of her latest music video, which was shot using an iPhone 17 Pro, as mentioned in the Apple CEO's Weibo update.
On digital platforms, the topic "Cook appears on Douyin live broadcast" became the most popular trending subject on the short-form video platform Douyin Tuesday, as reported by social media monitoring service Entobit.cn, after the Apple CEO's Monday night appearance.
