Dentsu's CEO Puts AI and Others for Global Transformation

Dentsu Group is focusing on execution, AI, and client-centricity in its next transformation phase, with Global CEO Takeshi Sano emphasizing the need for the advertising and marketing services group to accelerate the conversion of ideas into measurable business results.
In a note with the company's first-half results, Sano stated that the speed of technological, economic, and social changes requires companies to have more than just vision and ideas.
They require the capacity to "consistently turn concepts into concrete results" that generate economic worth and enduring benefits for society.
The change occurs as Dentsu aims to reinforce its international business while sustaining the progress of its operations in Japan. Sano stated that Dentsu's top two priorities are to enhance execution and speed up transformation. As part of that initiative, the organization has revamped its worldwide management framework by minimizing management tiers and positioning a significant portion of its global leadership directly beneath the Global CEO.
The goal is increased clarity and quicker reactions to shifts in the business and advertising sectors.
For Dentsu, this signifies a shift from viewing transformation as a long-term strategic goal to prioritizing execution speed and accountability as central elements of the organization’s operations.
Sano stated that the firm’s international operations are a crucial management focus, as Dentsu seeks to quickly restore their management structures and attain an early resurgence in competitiveness and profitability. Simultaneously, the firm aims to preserve and enhance the growth trajectory of its operations in Japan while broadening its advantages throughout the worldwide organization.

Sano stated that with the new management framework, client-centricity has become Dentsu's "new mantra", emphasizing two essential capabilities: agility and collaboration. The first is the capability to foresee client demands and react with increased speed and adaptability. The second involves more profound collaboration among Dentsu's capabilities — uniting its various areas of expertise to deliver integrated solutions.
Sano mentioned that Dentsu aims to completely utilize AI, data, and technology to transform its position from a marketing services provider into a more comprehensive growth partner for its clients. The goal is to assume more comprehensive responsibility — spanning strategy creation and operational implementation to achieving tangible results.

Sano is also establishing Japan as a competitive advantage for Dentsu on a global scale. He highlighted the creativity, insight, technology, and profound understanding of people developed in Japan, along with the enduring trust established through relationships with clients and partners, as key strengths for the group. The aim is to enhance collaboration between Dentsu's Japanese and international operations.
Sano's approach unfolds amid swift technological advancements, growing diversity in consumer values, and worldwide economic and societal issues. Generative AI is speeding up transformations in business operations, while the marketing sector is evolving to be more technology-focused and divided. Sano suggests that the firms that excel in this landscape will be those that merge empathy and insight into human behavior with effective execution.
