FM Cho Discusses Deepening Ties With NATO, Belgium

Foreign Minister Cho Hyun engaged in discussions with Radmila Sekerinska, the Deputy Secretary General of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), in Brussels with the intention of enhancing their collaborative efforts.
In a recent meeting, the two parties acknowledged the increasing cooperation for peace between South Korea and NATO and committed to furthering collaborative endeavors in defense and other relevant areas, as stated by the Seoul foreign ministry.

They both recognized the importance of sustaining their collaboration in order to effectively address worldwide security issues through continuous communication.
During a distinct meeting, discussions were held between the minister and David Clarinval, who serves as Belgium's deputy prime minister and minister overseeing labor, economy, and agriculture, focusing on strengthening higher-level interactions and practical collaboration.
Celebrating the 125th anniversary of diplomatic relations, Cho expressed his desire to enhance connections in a variety of areas, including the economy, culture, and academia, which was met with reciprocal agreement from Clarinval.
Moreover, the office of Foreign Minister Cho Tae-yul announced that he will be traveling to Belgium later this week to participate in the meeting of foreign ministers from the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).

Cho is scheduled to attend the discussion on NATO allies and Indo-Pacific partners, making it the fourth consecutive occasion where a South Korean top diplomat has been present at this multilateral event, as per the foreign ministry in Seoul.
In addition to NATO allies, South Korea, Japan, Australia, and New Zealand - who are referred to as "IP4," NATO's four Indo-Pacific partner countries - will be in attendance, along with the European Union and Ukraine, for deliberations concerning defense and regional security cooperation.
On the periphery of the primary gathering, Cho is planning to convene a trilateral discussion with the US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Japanese Foreign Minister Iwaya Takeshi regarding North Korea's nuclear program, regional advancements, and economic partnership, as stated by the ministry.

Additionally, Cho intends to engage in individual discussions and various types of meetings with his counterparts from the participating nations and the NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, as stated by the ministry.
