Ho Chi Minh City, Czech Republic’s Localities Bolster Ties

Chairman Nguyen Van Duoc of the People's Committee in Ho Chi Minh City had discussions with Milos Vystrcil, who is the President of the Senate of the Parliament of the Czech Republic. This meeting was part of his official visit to Vietnam, which was initiated by Tran Thanh Man, the Chairman of the National Assembly

The meeting is occurring as Vietnam and the Czech Republic commemorate 75 years of diplomatic relations (1950–2025) and signifies the concrete actions taken to elevate their relationship to a Strategic Partnership as agreed upon by both governments in January 2025.

Nguyen Van Duoc expressed gratitude for the enduring traditional friendship between Vietnam and the Czech Republic in his welcoming speech.

The chairman highlighted that the Czech Republic is among Viet Nam's key partners in Europe at present, with bilateral trade amounting to over 2 billion USD annually.

Various areas of cooperation between the two nations are showing encouraging advancements, such as manufacturing, environmental technology, healthcare, pharmaceuticals, education, training, science, technology, and interpersonal interactions.    

 

At present, there are approximately 100,000 Vietnamese individuals residing in the Czech Republic.

The Czech Government has officially acknowledged the Czech community of Vietnamese descent as the 14th ethnic minority in the country. This recognition clearly demonstrates the strong bond and successful integration between the two communities. 

Chairman Nguyen Van Duoc assured Czech Senate President Milos Vystrcil that Ho Chi Minh City is prepared to support Czech businesses in areas where the Czech Republic excels. He also suggested further collaboration in education and training, as well as in manufacturing and technical equipment.

Additionally, Chairman Nguyen Van Duoc proposed cooperation in environmental technology, water treatment, and waste management during the meeting. He observed that these regions are in line with the development direction of Ho Chi Minh City in the upcoming period.

The chairperson mentioned that as a result of recent administrative changes, the newly structured Ho Chi Minh City is poised to transform into a mega-city with substantial potential for vigorous development.

The city is also gearing up to set up an International Financial Center, paving the way for enhanced collaboration with foreign partners, particularly from the Czech Republic. The chairman suggested that the Czech Embassy should keep up its efforts in promoting events that showcase the culture, products, and scientific advancements of the Czech Republic in Vietnam, in order to increase the export of Czech products to Vietnam.

Milos Vystrcil, the President of the Czech Senate, stated that the enduring bond between Vietnam and the Czech Republic is anchored on a shared commitment to peace and the desire for autonomy and liberty.
