Global construction leader Hyundai Engineering & Construction (E&C) is amplifying its clean-energy efforts, leading a government-supported initiative to design extensive green hydrogen plants capable of producing more than 100 megawatts of carbon-free fuel.

Hyundai E&C announced on Friday that its HMG Construction Research Institute will spearhead the initiative, backed by the Ministry of Climate, Energy and Environment.

The initiative seeks to create an extensive design package that encompasses plant systems, essential processes, and operational configurations for large-scale hydrogen generation, intending to advance the technology to a stage ready for demonstration and commercialization.

Hyundai E&C will head a consortium featuring Hyundai Engineering, Hyundai Motor, Hanwha Global, Korea Midland Power, Mirae Standards Research Institute, Seoul National University, and Korea University.

According to the company, Hyundai E&C will handle the creation of the basic engineering package and perform an economic feasibility study.

The initiative will employ artificial intelligence alongside dynamic simulation models to address variations in renewable energy production and enhance the stability and dependability of plant operations.

The firm stated it aims to utilize the project to enhance its capability to combine extensive hydrogen production systems with renewable energy and adapt to fluctuations in the hydrogen market.

HMG Construction Research Institute, the comprehensive R&D entity of Hyundai E&C and Hyundai Engineering, will consolidate technologies related to hydrogen generation, storage, transport, and application within Hyundai Motor Group.
