Indonesia Eyes $20 Million F&B Deals at Canada Expo

Indonesia's food and beverage exporters are aiming to secure deals exceeding $20 million (approximately Rp346.44 billion) at SIAL Canada 2026, according to the Trade Ministry, which referenced robust demand in North America.
Ambassador Muhsin Syihab to Canada indicated that the potential highlights the competitiveness of Indonesian goods and their alignment with the shifting preferences of Canadian consumers.

He issued a statement declaring that Canada represents a contemporary market with a high demand for premium, sustainable, and innovative products, and Indonesian goods are well-equipped to satisfy these demands.
The Indonesian Pavilion highlighted 10 companies presenting a variety of products, including coffee, cocoa, processed foods, spices, cassava-derived items, snacks, and seafood products over the course of the three-day exhibition.
The ambassador indicated that the involvement is designed to enhance promotional efforts and intensify market penetration within Canada as well as across the broader North American region. There was a significant increase in the export of Indonesian processed food and beverages to Canada during the period from 2023 to 2025.
The value of shipments rose significantly from approximately $56.4 million in 2023 to US$116.6 million in 2025, registering an increase of over 106 percent.
The expansion was propelled by the cocoa product sector, along with processed fruit and vegetable items, as well as various other food categories.
Mahdewi Silky, the Trade Attaché in Ottawa, stated that an increase in demand should correspond with enhanced access to the market. She stated, "There is an anticipation among enterprises and partners for a more expedited approval process of the Indonesia-Canada Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement." The agreement is anticipated to reduce tariffs, enhance market predictability, and facilitate increased trade and investment between the two nations.
The Indonesia Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) has highlighted that the Indonesia-Canada Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (ICA-CEPA) is poised to significantly enhance bilateral trade and investment relations. The principal objective of CEPA ought to be the augmentation of trade.

The Ministry of Trade announced that the ratification of the ICA-CEPA is pending the submission by President Prabowo Subianto to the parliament.

Djatmiko Bris Witjaksono, the Director General of International Trade Negotiations, described the ICA-CEPA as a landmark agreement, highlighting its significance not only for Indonesia and Canada but also for the broader relationship between Canada and Asia. He emphasized the significance of international dynamics as a primary factor leading to the signing of the ICA-CEPA agreement in September 2025, which was concluded in less than 24 months of negotiations.
