Indonesian FM Welcomes Turkish FM Fidan for Official Visit

Foreign Minister Sugiono met with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan in Jakarta as both nations aimed for increased collaboration in trade, defense, and regional security.

Fidan is in Indonesia to talk about enhancing bilateral cooperation, reinforcing trade and defense connections, and tackling regional and global security issues. Fidan is likewise anticipated to stress stronger collaboration in infrastructure, energy, transportation, digitalization, artificial intelligence, advanced technology, and halal sectors. The efforts are focused on increasing bilateral trade to US$10 billion, which is approximately Rp178.3 trillion.
Fidan will additionally examine current defense industry initiatives and investigate possible new collaboration opportunities. Concerning Gaza, Fidan is anticipated to reconfirm that Turkiye and Indonesia continue to collaborate closely on Palestine and back initiatives for enduring peace.
While in Jakarta, Fidan is anticipated to talk about Iran, the Strait of Hormuz, Syria, the Russia-Ukraine conflict, Somalia, Sudan, Libya, and broader Asia-Pacific security concerns.
Fidan made a trip to Indonesia in February 2025 as part of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s official visit. In January, the two foreign ministers convened in Ankara for the inaugural Indonesia-Turkiye foreign and defense ministers' meeting under the 2+2 format.
The Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology is enhancing partnership with Turkiye in areas of higher education, science, technology, and the downstream development of key domestic industries.

This was disclosed in a meeting held in Jakarta between Brian Yuliarto, the Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology, and Talip Küçükcan, the Ambassador of the Republic of Turkiye to Indonesia. Yuliarto considers international collaboration essential for reshaping Indonesian higher education to meet global challenges and future technological demands.
In the meeting, the Turkish Ambassador highlighted that Indonesia serves as a key strategic ally for Turkiye in the areas of higher education advancement and future technologies. The two parties reiterated the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) regarding higher education cooperation signed on February 12, 2025, in Bogor between the Indonesian Ministry of Education and Technology and Turkey's Council of Higher Education.
The partnership encompasses multiple strategic domains, such as mobility for students and lecturers, collaborative research, academic exchanges, the creation of joint and dual-degree programs, the enhancement of higher education forums, and advancements in technological innovation.

Moreover, both nations are set to establish a Joint Working Group (JWG) on higher education to promote the continued execution of these initiatives. The forum will concentrate on fostering collaborations in key sectors like sustainable agricultural technology, health technology, medical infrastructure, defense technology, sustainable natural resource management, advanced manufacturing, digitalization, artificial intelligence (AI), semiconductors, renewable energy, disaster management, and marine science.
