Japan, Jordan Agree to Deepen Strategic Security, Economic Ties

imgJapanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi and Jordan's King Abdullah mutually committed to strengthening their bilateral relationship, emphasizing enhanced cooperation in security and economic domains, according to reports.

During their discussion in Tokyo, the representatives mutually decided to create a collaborative committee comprising government and private sector stakeholders, aimed at assisting Japanese businesses in penetrating the Jordanian market by enhancing economic conditions and streamlining investment opportunities, as reported by the Foreign Ministry.

Upon assuming her governmental role on October 21st, Takaichi conveyed gratitude towards Jordan for its assistance in safeguarding Japanese citizens within the Middle Eastern region, which has experienced escalating geopolitical tensions in recent years due to various conflicts involving regional powers such as Israel and Iran.

Prior to the diplomatic discussions, both nations formalized financial arrangements that included extending loan packages worth 15.5 billion yen (equivalent to $101 million) to Jordan, aimed at bolstering its economic development, and additionally committed 745 million yen in direct financial assistance to help Jordan enhance its digital security infrastructure and protective technological capabilities.

King Abdullah II conveyed his appreciation for Japan's ongoing assistance, which has consistently contributed to the development of Jordan's social and economic landscape through collaborative economic efforts.

In turn, Prime Minister Takaichi recognized the King's pivotal role in driving Jordan's economic and financial transformations.

 

She highlighted the substantial challenges posed by the extensive refugee population and reaffirmed Japan's commitment to supporting Jordan.

Representatives from both sides consented to establish a collaborative task force involving government and private sector stakeholders, with the primary aim of enhancing the economic landscape and drawing foreign capital to Jordan, consequently facilitating and strengthening the business activities of Japanese enterprises operating within the nation.

The discussion also covered regional matters, with Prime Minister TAKAICHI stressing the critical need to maintain the Gaza ceasefire and ensure its genuine and consistent implementation.  She underscored Japan's dedication to meaningfully participating in global initiatives designed to enhance the humanitarian conditions in Gaza and support its prompt rehabilitation and rebuilding efforts.   Furthermore, she reiterated Japan's commitment to pursuing an active and pragmatic approach in supporting the establishment of a two-state solution.

During the discussion, King Abdullah II gave a detailed account of the current circumstances in Gaza and the West Bank, and also highlighted Jordan's initiatives to assist in Syria's rebuilding process.  He voiced his interest in improving mutual information exchange and dialogue with Japan, stressing the critical nature of sustained collaborative efforts to promote regional peace and progress. Prime Minister Takaichi affirmed her alignment with these sentiments.

During their meeting, the two leaders deliberated on the current geopolitical landscape in East Asia and showed mutual support for the Official Development Assistance (ODA) Loan agreement designed to strengthen economic growth and human resource capabilities.   Additionally, they positively acknowledged the Grant Aid for the "Economic and Social Development Program," which specifically addresses cybersecurity infrastructure, and recognized the Memorandum of Cooperation related to cybersecurity matters."
