The Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) announced that it will create a digital employment platform designed to connect former US Forces Korea (USFK) personnel with job opportunities at Korean firms operating in the US.

A memorandum of understanding (MOU) was signed between the KCCI and the Korea-U.S. Alliance Foundation (KUSAF) to facilitate veteran employment and strengthen bilateral cooperation between Korea and the US. The signing took place at KCCI headquarters in Seoul.

Present at the signing ceremony were KCCI Executive Vice Chairman Park Il-joon, KUSAF President Leem Ho-young, and Korea Defense Veterans Association Chairman Robert Abrams, who previously served as USFK Commander.

The platform will enable Korean businesses with US operations to advertise employment opportunities, while military personnel who have finished or are nearing completion of their Korean service can upload their resumes directly. This system aims to offer high-quality civilian career prospects for veterans while helping Korean enterprises find personnel recognized for their reliability and flexibility.

According to the KCCI, the initiative will give Korean companies in the US access to qualified professionals and deliver concrete business advantages, including federal and state government incentives available to employers who hire veterans.

The US Labor and Treasury Departments administer the Work Opportunity Tax Credit program, offering companies tax credits of up to $9,600 for each veteran they employ.

The KCCI stated that through this platform, Korean businesses in the US can gain hiring advantages while enhancing their corporate image by increasing local employment and meeting social responsibility obligations.

“For the past 10 years, many Korean companies have actively invested in the US and built production bases, leading to a sharp increase in the number of well-paying, high-quality jobs,” Park says. “This platform will be a win-win for both sides, as USFK veterans will have access to quality jobs, while Korean companies can hire talent who are familiar with Korean culture.”

“The MOU will boost the morale of the 28,500-strong USFK and provide practical compensation for their service in South Korea,” Leem states.

The platform is set to launch operations in the coming month. The KCCI initiated its promotional efforts by presenting the platform during the 25th ROK-U.S. Alliance Veterans Conference that took place in Seoul.
