The Kookmin University-led Environment Consortium of the Humanities and Social Sciences (HUSS) Convergence Talent Development Project has established a memorandum of understanding with the Qatar-based Gulf Organization for Research & Development (GORD) to promote international climate professionals and enhance the green sector.
The university announced that the agreement was signed by both parties at the Seoul campus.
It stated that the collaboration signifies the start of wider educational and research collaboration with the Qatari organization focused on sustainability.

The signing event included delegates from five universities in the consortium, such as Duksung Women’s University, the University of Ulsan, Inha University, and Chosun University.
Established in 2009 by Yousef Alhorr, GORD is a semi-governmental entity tasked with advancing sustainability in alignment with the Qatar National Vision 2030. It manages the Global Sustainability Assessment System and performs applied research in carbon management, energy efficiency, renewable energy, and water resources.
The organization offers professional development and capacity-building initiatives along with carbon-neutrality advisory services. GORD’s affiliate, the Global Carbon Council (GCC), runs an international carbon credit initiative that is the inaugural program in the Global South to completely fulfill the eligibility criteria set by the Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation.

The pact aims to enhance students' comprehension and hands-on experience in the international carbon market and climate sector, while also offering career, job, and research prospects in the Middle East.
According to the agreement, both organizations intend to enhance educational and practical chances associated with voluntary carbon markets and Article 6 of the Paris Agreement. The consortium committed to fostering educational and research collaborations with GORD and Qatari universities, connecting student research and startup initiatives with prospects in the global climate-tech sector and establishing career and employment networks in the Middle East.
Specifically, internships and practical programs associated with the GCC are anticipated to provide students with direct exposure to the global carbon market and aid them in developing professional skills in the area.
The consortium aims to extend its collaboration beyond GORD to involve universities and pertinent organizations in Qatar, widening the focus of partnership to shared educational initiatives and research, along with global prospects for student startups and research endeavors in the climate-tech field.

Kookmin University, the primary institution of the Environment Consortium, is advancing interdisciplinary education that crosses the limits of universities and academic fields under the theme of “Coexistence and Mutual Prosperity in a Time of Climate Crisis.”
The university is dedicated to cultivating future experts who possess problem-solving abilities and interdisciplinary perspectives to comprehend environmental challenges through the lens of the humanities and social sciences while creating effective solutions.
