Mastercard Asia Pacific President Ari Sarker Steps Down

After more than ten years in the position, Ari Sarker of payment company Mastercard will leave his position as president for Asia-Pacific at the end of 2025 to take an advisory role. In this role, he will mentor regional leadership and concentrate on strategic initiatives to ensure a seamless transition.
The business points out that Sarker has played a key role in its expansion throughout the region by promoting growth, fortifying alliances, and cultivating a culture of cooperation.
Sarker will be replaced as president for Asia-Pacific on January 1, 2026, by Richard Wormald, who is currently division president for Australasia.
Wormald, the company points out, “brings deep regional experience and a strong track record of leadership, having led the company’s business in Australasia with a focus on performance, innovation and stakeholder engagement”.

Sarker and Wormald will collaborate closely over the next few months to facilitate a seamless transition, interacting with market players through joint appearances and messaging.
Additionally, the business has named Paul Monnington as the division president of Australasia, who will take Wormald's place in January 2025. The company further states that Monnington, who formerly oversaw Woolworths' Wpay business and held key positions at Woolworths Group and National Australia Bank, provides a wealth of experience in retail payments and fintech innovation.
As a member of Mastercard's Asia-Pacific leadership team, Monnington will be responsible for managing markets in Australia, New Zealand, and the Pacific Islands and will report to Wormald.
“Sarker’s influence across the region has been profound,” shares Ling Hai, the company’s president of Asia-Pacific, Europe, the Middle East and Africa. “He's championed innovation and inclusion, and built deep relationships with governments, fintechs and enterprises.”
“I’m excited to be joining Mastercard at such a pivotal time,” Monnington said. “The company’s focus on innovation, inclusion, and customer partnership aligns with my vision, and I look forward to contributing to continued success in Australasia.”
This change in leadership demonstrates Mastercard's emphasis on capable, morally-driven leadership and its dedication to influencing the direction of Asia-Pacific trade. With a clear corporate direction and seasoned management in place, the business is well-positioned to expand relationships, spur innovation, and seize new possibilities throughout the area. The modifications show a dedication to continuity while bringing in new viewpoints.
